The challenges we have faced were reflected in the [annual results](Tx8_-PSb/ZHNKSWJzM2M2QkdJNmRWbEZXTUNsazV4dDE4MkpUL1Y0NHVXMnYyOWUyVWdWUnQyRmo1bnB4aHN4azhJNGFVRFB2UkpMdlJ0aDdsdXdtcVFpck44TFQ1aWhLNTJnaTU3aE9oYUdydm5CaDYwMFNuQ05GSkNldz09S0/) for the Cathay Pacific Group. We recorded a significant loss, but much smaller than the record losses of the previous year, helped by a profitable second-half which was driven by our strong cargo performance and overall cost controls. It gives us all great confidence for our prospects when the restrictions to our business are finally lifted. In terms of our current cargo capacity, we’re still constrained on long-haul trade lanes, but we have been working hard to free up as much capacity as possible. For instance, we will be adding two freighters into Europe in April. I am pleased to say that from the base level of 20 per cent against 2019 in January, we are now up to around a third of our pre-pandemic capacity. We are flying as much as we can regionally and have increased flights into both North East and South East Asia. While we welcome the recent relaxation to some quarantine requirements in Hong Kong, our cargo operations are still restricted because of ongoing crew quarantine requirements at time of writing. We are hopeful further changes that will allow us to restore our long-haul freighter routes will not be too far away. Thank you for your patience and understanding in the meantime as we comply with government policies. With an eye to opening up, we have been playing an important role in carrying vital shipments of [RATs (rapid antigen tests)]( and other critical supplies to help authorities both here in Hong Kong and overseas. We are currently running a series of nine freighter charters to Auckland and have operated a cargo-only passenger freighter to Darwin, which is not on our current network, to deliver the equipment required to transition to open borders. There are many other examples around our network of this kind of support. In terms of how to book, we have been delighted with the response to the launch of [Click & Ship](, our intuitive online booking platform which gives 24/7 access and instant confirmation. Click & Shipnow accounts for around 40 per cent of our bookings in the markets where it has been rolled out. We will continue to add new features as we act on customer feedback. I said at the start that ours is a dynamic business, and the big international news story has been Ukraine. We have been monitoring the situation very closely, and we have taken the decision as a company not to fly through Russian air space. Our flight schedule remains intact but we will see some lengthened flight times for services to Europe and the Americas. Our operational teams will ensure this is communicated well. We are also monitoring daily fuel prices, which are now more volatile as a result of the crisis. Closer to home, the other big challenge this year has been the elevated restrictions on the border with the Chinese Mainland. This is affecting volumes of cargo between Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, and this has been compounded by the lockdown measures taken in Shenzhen and Dongguan to support the Chinese Mainland’s dynamic zero-COVID policies. This is having an impact on production, cross-border trucking and transport in the short term. We are working closely with our freight-forwarder and shipper partners to ensure that we are still able to get as much cargo as we can through to our Hong Kong cargo terminal. I’d like to close by focusing on two areas regarding our people, who continue to respond magnificently to these challenges and near-constant change. Firstly, we celebrated International Women’s Day this month with the theme of breaking the bias. We place great importance as a company on diversity and inclusion, and we are a signatory to IATA’s 25by2025 initiative, a commitment to increase female representation at the senior level and in areas of the business where representation is low.
