Spearheading Legislation: Since the start of this Congress term, Carolyn has been the lead sponsor on 55 bills. Of those, three have already passed the House, and three officially became law. Lead Sponsor Bills — Passed The House: - HR 1980 Smithsonian Women’s History Museum Act — to fund the first-ever comprehensive museum dedicated to honoring the achievements and progress of American women - HR 2513 Corporate Transparency Act of 2019 — to require companies to disclose their true, beneficial owners at the time the company is formed to prevent bad actors from using anonymous shell companies to hide illicit activities - HR 4335 8-K Trading Gap Act of 2019 — to require public companies to adopt policies to prevent corporate insiders from trading before Form 8-K disclosures Lead Sponsor Bills — Signed Into Law: - HR 943 Never Again Education Act — to provide funding to schools and education programs to teach about the Holocaust to promote tolerance and prevent hate - HR 1327 Never Forget the Heroes 9/11 Victim Compensation Act — to guarantee medical care compensation for 9/11 first responders, victims, and their families that will not expire - HR 777 Debbie Smith Reauthorization Act of 2019 — to provide funding for the rape-kit backlog Carolyn also introduced several new pieces of legislation on gun violence, paid family leave, consumer financial protection, the environment, and more. She’s remained a staunch advocate for the Green New Deal and Climate Action Now, as well as the Equality Act and Equal Rights Amendment. She has also fought to preserve the ACA and to make healthcare affordable and accessible and has supported bills like the Lower Prescription Drug Costs Now Act of 2019. [For the FULL list of all the bills that Carolyn has co-sponsored this Congress, click here >>]( Remaining Committed To Committees: In addition to being elected as the first woman to chair the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, Carolyn is also a senior member of the Committee on Financial Services and the Joint Economic Committee, and was appointed to the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis. Responding Effectively to COVID-19: The coronavirus crisis has had far-reaching impacts that require effective and responsible leadership, which Carolyn has demonstrated through her role in the response efforts. She joined House colleagues in detailing critical provisions in the CARES Act and HEROES Act stimulus packages — ensuring that working families and businesses are prioritized in receiving relief. As a member of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis as well as chairwoman of the Oversight Committee, Carolyn has used her roles to demand transparency of taxpayer dollars, to guarantee affordable vaccines, and to expand health care protections. The USPS has suffered greatly through this pandemic, and Carolyn has fought hard to secure funding for the postal service and its workers. She continues to make sure that our essential workers are taken care of on the frontlines by helping healthcare workers with student debt and seeking an increase in PPE, as well as making sure they are compensated for their public service during this crisis. Overseeing Government Officials: Carolyn became the first woman to chair the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform where she continues to work with colleagues on holding the administration and public officials accountable to the American people. She has demanded transparency of taxpayer dollars, particularly as it pertains to the COVID-19 stimulus funding, and has teamed up with other Oversight members to limit corruption and abuse of power in the White House. She also played an instrumental role in the impeachment of Donald Trump as part of her Oversight duties. Continuing To Fight For Us: There is no fight that Carolyn will shy away from when it comes to keeping Americans safe and supported — and she won't stop until the job is done. Other major priorities that Carolyn has been at the forefront of include: ensuring an accurate and safe census, providing food and housing security, supporting our veterans, participating in natural disaster relief efforts, standing up against discriminatory policies, expanding healthcare protections, condemning the administration's harsh border policies, reducing harmful environmental emissions, building key infrastructure in her district, fighting for equal pay, closing educational gaps, protecting reproductive rights, and so much more. Carolyn has proven yet again during this 116th Congress that she is willing to roll up her sleeves to get the job done, and she consistently continues to deliver for us.
