Welcome to A Maloney Minute: COVID-19 Edition (Vol. 7). During the COVID-19 crisis, Carolyn has been busy fighting to protect the health and wellbeing of the American people.
Hereâs what Carolyn's been working on:
Supporting Arts & Culture:
Alongside Rep. Nadler, Carolyn led seventeen of their colleagues to request that House leadership provide additional aid to museums, libraries, and other cultural institutions. These important organizations account for about 4.5% of the U.S. GDP and must be included in the next COVID-19 recovery package in order to help restore the economy.
Delivering Aid to USPS:
Since the start of the pandemic, Carolyn has been a strong supporter of the United States Postal Service which has suffered great financial losses during this time. She has highlighted the need for USPS essential services and has responded to their cry for help. On Tuesday, Carolyn requested $75 billion in emergency funding to aid the USPS who is at risk of shutting down operations if the federal government doesnât step up and provide monetary aid. [Remember to sign the petition to help save the post office!](
Fighting for Rent & Mortgage Forgiveness:
During this crisis, renters and homeowners need relief. Thatâs why Carolyn signed on to co-sponsor H.R. 6515, the Rent and Mortgage Collection Act of 2020. The bill would grant relief for renters and homeowners impacted by the COVID-19 crisis, allowing millions to stay in their homes at a time when doing so is vital to protecting public health.
Carolyn Named to the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis:
On Thursday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi named Carolyn to the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis â a panel dedicated to protecting the health and safety of Americans by providing oversight that will ensure the trillions of dollars in taxpayer funding are being used efficiently, equitably, and transparently.
Everyday Heroes:
Daisy Paez is one of NY-12âs District Leaders, and the work she does for our community is nothing short of incredible. While Carolyn couldnât be by her side during her month-long battle with COVID-19, she (and the rest of Team Maloney) were [overjoyed to learn sheâs come home!](
