Hello,
Although it shouldn't take a global health crisis to demonstrate the urgent need for paid sick leave, COVID-19 has made it glaringly clear how important paid sick leave is for protecting our workers and the public.
In Congress, I've worked to guarantee paid sick leave benefits under the coronavirus relief packages and will continue to do so as we respond to this pandemic â but we need to do more to expand these protections on a national scale and not just limit them to COVID-19.
We cannot continue to ask workers to choose between sacrificing a paycheck or going to work while sick. Not only are employees less productive when they are ill, but it's not right to ask them to compromise their health because they are worried about losing their jobs or not being paid. Beyond that, they are putting others at risk by spreading potentially contagious germs at the workplace and on their commutes.
It's time to join every other developed country in the world and pass a national paid sick leave policy.
