Hello,
While millions of Americans are doing everything in their power to slow the spread of COVID-19, some in power are using this crisis as an opportunity to spread racism, xenophobia, and hate towards our Asian American Pacific Islander communities.
This crisis has seen a global spike in verbal and physical attacks on Asian individuals â and many of our Asian American neighbors are now living, unjustly, in fear. At a time when we must pull together to defeat our common enemy, that is simply unacceptable.
Last week, 200 civil rights groups in the U.S. called for our government to publicly denounce the growing amount of anti-Asian racism related to this pandemic and asked them to take tangible steps to counter this wave of xenophobia.

When conducting initial response measures to the outbreak, the World Health Organizationâs Emergency Committee issued a statement to caution leaders against using âactions that promote stigma or discrimination.â
Yet on multiple occasions, the president has gone out of his way to fuel racism and xenophobia by referring to COVID-19 as the âChinese Virus." It is horrifying that at a time when we MUST work together, he thinks itâs okay to intentionally work to divide the American people.
Racism and xenophobia are the OPPOSITE of what we need to defeat this global virus. Itâs critical that we pull together as a country and look out for one another, not feed into fears with discrimination.
