I spent my 40th birthday talking to voters, and there’s no place I would rather be than on the campaign trail for my wife Carlina. Dear {NAME}, By now, you have undoubtedly heard much about my wife Carlina’s incredible record of delivering for New Yorkers on issues from abortion access to building affordable housing to supporting our Open Streets program. But I want to share something personal. In January 2011, as a newcomer to the Lower East Side, I attended my first community board meeting. On the agenda was Essex Crossing—the development of nine vacant blocks razed by urban renewal in the 1960s. The meeting became raucous, but one young community organizer, Carlina, commanded the crowd's attention, and captivated me, as she pressed for permanent affordable housing on the site. That night, Carlina challenged me and everyone else in the room to imagine a government that listened and could deliver results for those it had historically marginalized. A year later, I would join that community board where I would serve alongside Carlina, fighting for those same principles she had articulated the night I first saw her. Soon after, we fell in love, were married, and started our life together. Carlina and me the night she won her first primary for City Council in 2017. For the last decade, I have had the privilege of watching my wife build her career in public service—first as a community organizer, then as our City Councilwoman, and now in her race for Congress. Throughout that journey, I continue to be awed by her deep empathy, her command of the issues, and her ability to lead with compassion. She believes firmly that the purpose of government is to lift people up, and she makes it her business to ensure that it does in every way possible. Last week, I got to spend my 40th birthday on the campaign trail—spreading the word about Carlina’s record and how she will deliver for New Yorkers in Congress. As we reach our last major filing deadline this Wednesday, August 3rd, I am asking for your support to keep up the momentum Carlina and her team have built. [Can you chip in $10 or more today?]( Carlina and I have always been a team, and I am looking forward to taking this next step by her side. So, as Carlina would say… !Pa'lante!
