Life long after the headlines fade.     Trouble viewing this email? [View it online.](   [Turkey and Syria earthquakes: One year later...](   {NAME}, this week marks one year since the back-to-back earthquakes in Turkey and Syria that killed more than 50,000 and left millions displaced. Nothing has been the same since – including the importance of your support for families like Bulent’s (read on for his story). In 2023, CARE in northwest Syria reached 42,000 households with food vouchers and cash assistance. But what happens to crises when they fade from the news? [Families trying to rebuild new livelihoods and reclaim their hope for the future are all but forgotten.](   [Monthly gifts make all the difference](   Start a recurring gift today to rebuild futures – and your first, second, and third months’ gifts are matched.   [MATCH MY MONTHLY GIFT](     [CARE](   [After eight months of living in a tent, the gift of a bathroom gave Bulent his dignity back.](   Bulent, 48 years old, worked as a math teacher giving private lessons to children in a village nearby. In a matter of minutes on February 6, 2023, the earthquakes demolished his family’s house.   His family couldn’t return home, so “all four of us had to stay in a tent… We did not even have a shower for eight months.”   Even now, a year later, his family shares one room, roughly 215 square feet, that Bulent built himself in the open space beside their collapsed house. CARE rehabilitated the room’s roof because it was leaking and helped reconstruct their bathroom.   [The new bathroom provided by CARE made a big difference in our lives. I feel more human now. …Now, I can face the world with dignity.](   Through the last year's hardships, Bulent is more dedicated than ever to supporting his family. He recently started attending the University of Hatay to obtain the permit needed to work as a mathematician at a school. “This is my only chance to be able to provide for my family. …I haven't been able to resume teaching as many residents either moved away or have lost their lives.” {NAME}, donors like you helped provide Bulent and his family with cash for the items they’ve needed most, hygiene kits, and more. [But as the winter continues and the prices of essential items soar, we know families will experience hunger, mothers will skip meals to feed their children, and forced marriage and child labor could increase as a result of people needing money to eat and survive.]( “It seems like a luxury to be able to think about the future. I try to take one day at a time and stay strong. It's crucial that people are aware of what we're going through because more support is needed,” Bulent shares.   [Only for a limited-time](   Start a recurring gift to help families recover from disaster long after the headlines fade.   [MATCH MY MONTHLY GIFT](   [Or make a difference with a one-time gift now.](   CARE’s New Year’s Match has a special fund, which will allow one-time gifts made by February 14, 2024, to be matched and for new monthly gifts to be matched for the first three months – up to a total of $100,000. If your one-time gift or first initial monthly gift is received after February 14, 2024, or after we’ve reached our total match fund, it will not be matched but will still support our lifesaving programs.   [Facebook]( [Instagram]( [Youtube]( [X](   Text CARE to 227387 to receive SMS updates about your impact around the world.
