Mykola, age 19, and Eduard are evacuation drivers for a Ukrainian organization supported by CARE that has evacuated more than 35,000 people in the past year from areas where active fighting puts civilian lives in danger.   The work of heroes   • Every day, Mykola drives almost 200 miles to bring people to safety.   • Before each drive, he studies the route and takes the van for maintenance. Any breakdown on the road can cost someone’s life.   [Did you know?](   • In just over six months, he has evacuated more than 3,000 people. The youngest person rescued was a newborn baby, 13-days-old, and the oldest was 98-years-old.   • Many are elderly people who’ve lived here all their lives. Leaving home is an utter devastation. Photo below from a January 2023 evacuation.   [Elderly women getting in a vehicle](   • Some are people with disabilities who’ve been waiting months for help to get to safety.   Thank you for supporting heroes like Mykola and Eduard and hundreds more, who are dedicating their days to helping give their fellow Ukrainians a future.   [-----------------------------](   More heroes of war, supported by you and CARE:   A network of 500 volunteers, 100 drivers, 25 restaurants-turned-“war kitchens,” and 3 bakeries in Ukraine are delivering food to hospitals, kindergartens, and retirement homes. They serve meals right out of the back of their cars and provide food packs for elderly women, too. 140 Ukrainian teachers hired in Poland are helping refugee children feel welcome and supported as they start school far from home and in an unfamiliar country. Brave doctors and nurses continue to serve, despite fear for their own lives, and as the number of injured civilians increases every day. Women, who’ve been displaced themselves, are leading the important work of emergency shelters in Ukraine. In one such shelter in Kyiv, 2,000 people have passed through, and every one of them was known by name by the head of the shelter.   [Thank You!](  [Facebook]( [Instagram]( [Twitter](   Text CARE to 227387 to receive SMS updates about your impact around the world.
