Generous support empowers them to earn their own income – with access to life-changing loans, financial literacy, and business skills and change their futures. Inner Circle members provide that support, making programs for women possible all around the world. In Afghanistan, a CARE program is making a difference in the lives of women like Fatima*, a mother of six. Despite stifling limitations and challenges, she has built her own business drafting Afghan traditional dresses and is the sole breadwinner of her home. Her success is breaking the cycle of poverty for her family and helping her achieve her business dreams. Determined to make ends meet after she lost her husband, Fatima took out a loan of 20,000 AFN (around $280) from a village savings group. This group, supported by CARE’s Women Empowerment Program, provides financial assistance to women entrepreneurs like Fatima. With that loan, she rented a shop in a market to sell crafts made by her and other women. Fatima proves women can persevere and find creative ways to succeed, despite strong gender-based oppression. Now, she has the potential to expand her business and create employment opportunities for other women: “CARE’s support opened a window of hope for me. Establishing my shop and expanding the business meant I could provide for my family and help other women too.” With your support, CARE Afghanistan and its partners are delivering women's empowerment programs for over 6,000 Afghan women and 80 women-led small and medium-sized enterprises, providing essential skills and financial support to foster entrepreneurship and earn income from what they do.
