Since we launched this campaign over a year ago, Iâve thought a lot about our nationâs story. Our country was founded as a bold experiment in self-governance, that we would serve and listen to one another â and that each generation would share the responsibility of leaving our nation a better place for those who follow.
Today, we reflect on our countryâs promise, and we honor those who have sacrificed to protect it. Ours is a nation where thereâs not just one way to be patriotic, and thereâs not just one way to serve our neighbors.
Weâre seeing that right now in the folks who are going above and beyond to help each other through this crisis. Weâre seeing it in all those who are demanding better from their leaders in Washington. Out of love of country and commitment to one another comes a desire for change.
And thatâs why Iâm running for Senate. Growing up in Lexington, we didnât check voter registrations before caring for each other. As I talk with folks across the state today, I know that this value still holds true â and that as our nation changes, a commitment to respecting our neighbors and looking out for the next generation will always unite us.
So while todayâs celebrations may look different than years past, Iâm filled with hope when I think about our next chapter. For generations, Americans have organized and voted for a better future. And today, in that same spirit, our campaign is working to give a voice to every North Carolinian.
Weâre building something special. Iâm grateful to be in this fight with all of you, and to have the opportunity to write the next chapter of our nationâs story together.
