Fake Payday Loans. Here's another reason to avoid payday loans with sky-high interest rates: it might be a scam. Scammers often target people struggling to make ends meet due to inflation, offering payday loans to help pay the bills. After the target pays an upfront fee, the scammer takes the money and runs. 3. Bots And Authentication Codes. Some scammers use bots to do their dirty work, and in one popular bot scam, bots send texts or robocalls instructing targets to enter a one-time authentication code they’ve just received on their phone. If the target provides the code, the bot can use it to log into their bank account. 4. QR Codes For Free Gifts. There are a couple of different kinds of QR code scams, and this one is centered around an offer for a free gift. Scammers call or text targets offering a free $100 gift card they can redeem by scanning a QR code, but the QR code takes the person to a malicious website. 5. Fake Puppy Sales. These scams target dog lovers and would-be puppy owners through phony online sales ads.
