Here’s an easy way to find out. Whether it’s ice buildup inside or something else, even when there are signs your freezer might be failing, it can be hard to know for sure. Luckily, if you have suspicions that your freezer isn’t functioning correctly, there’s a simple test that can help you find out for sure. And when I say simple, I mean really simple. Just fill a bottle about halfway full of water, put a tight lid on it, and freeze it upside down. Once the water is frozen solid, flip the bottle over so the ice is at the top. Leave the bottle in your freezer for a day or two, then check it. If the ice is at the bottom of the bottle, you’ll know it melted and that your freezer is indeed faulty. You may or may not need to replace the freezer, but you should get rid of any food stored in it either way!
