JILLEE'S PICK ‘Thank You For Listening’ [A photo of the cover of 'Thank You for Listening' by Julia Whelan.]( If you follow my book reviews here, then you know I listen to a lot of audiobooks. One of my favorite narrators is Julia Whelan, who narrates works from all genres, but is best known for her narration of romantic comedies (or whatever the book equivalent of a rom-com is). Not too long ago, I learned Julia Whelan is just as talented an author as a narrator when I read her debut novel My Oxford Year. So when I recently realized she had a new book out called [Thank You for Listening](, it immediately went to the top of my list. The story centers on Sewanee, a former actress turned audiobook narrator who loses sight of her dreams after an accident. She agrees to narrate one last romance novel, and the process takes her on a journey of self-discovery that challenges her cynical outlook. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a romantic comedy novel more than I enjoyed this one! I was laughing out loud from the get-go, and once Sewanee met Nick, I was hooked and couldn't bring myself to stop listening. After all the serious classics I’ve been reading, lighthearted yet intelligent romances like this one have made a wonderful change of pace. If you enjoy intelligent romances, I’m sure you’ll find this one as charming as I did. (Knitting in the City by Penny Reid is another one worth checking out!) Celebrating Lucy: Today is the Christian feast day for [Saint Lucy](, AKA Lucia of Syracuse, a 4th-century martyr believed to have aided Christians hiding from persecution in the Roman catacombs. I was fascinated to learn [Saint Lucy’s Day]( is not only the national holiday of Saint Lucia, the Caribbean island nation, but is also a popular holiday throughout Scandinavia.
