Remove Sticky Stuff From Hair. Kids have a natural aptitude for getting sticky gunk stuck to their hair, but it’s nothing a little olive oil can’t handle. Just apply a generous amount of oil to the sticky substance and the hair it’s adhered to, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then gently work the gum free. 2. Unstick A Zipper. Speaking of sticking, olive oil can sort out a zipper that just won’t budge. Moisten a cotton swab with a bit of olive oil, then use the swab to apply oil to the slider and the teeth surrounding it. Give it a wiggle to get the slider moving again. (Be sure to work carefully so you don’t leave behind an oily stain!) 3. Prevent Wax Buildup. Before you put a taper or pillar candle into a candle holder, use a paper towel or soft cloth to apply a thin layer of olive oil to the areas of the holder where wax tends to drip. The oil will make any future wax buildup much easier to remove than it would have been otherwise.
