October 18, 2022 [View Online]( Good morning! I freely admit to my pro-butter bias, but honestly, is there anything better than good bread smeared with fresh butter? Homemade butter is the ultimate in freshness, and in Today’s Good Thing, I’ll show you a quick and easy way to make butter (and buttermilk) right in your own kitchen. In Jillee’s Pick, I’m highlighting a must-read for historical fiction fans. I give it five stars, two thumbs up, and a “10/10, would read again” for good measure. I didn't anticipate enjoying it as much as I did—not because I had low expectations, but because it exceeded my expectations by such a large margin. The author was ambitious in plotting out her epic saga spanning multiple wars, but she proved more than up to the task. The story follows a trio of unforgettable female characters whose lives are linked to and by the titular 14th-century chateau in Auvergne, France. This book is rich in both fascinating details and humanity, and I simply can’t say enough good things about it. I ended up learning a lot about the French Revolution that I didn't know before, which is one of things I love about reading historical fiction. At 564 pages, this isn't a short book, but it's essentially three different stories in one, so those pages really fly by. If you enjoy historical fiction, The Women of Chateau Lafayette is a masterpiece of the genre that I’m sure you’ll enjoy as much as I did.
