PLUS: Blender bottles as a versatile kitchen tool, an ode to the thrilling Top Gun sequel, and more. September 1, 2022 [View Online]( Good morning! See The Potential In Your Blender Bottle [Pancake batter being poured out of a blender bottle.]( Blender bottles can do a lot more than mix up a protein shake. Our second youngest, Kell, was spending a lot of time at the gym before he moved out a couple years ago, and I still have a few of his old blender bottles in the kitchen cupboard that he would use to mix up various powder-based drinks. I may not be using them to make protein shakes, but that doesn’t mean I'm not putting those blender bottles to good use! They're surprisingly handy in the kitchen, and I’ve used them to whisk salad dressings, blend pancake batter, and even scramble eggs. If you have a blender bottle in a cupboard somewhere, dust if off and look for opportunities to use it in the kitchen—I'm sure you'll find it as useful as I have! SWAP THAT 🔄 FOR THIS Use Shaving Cream To Shine Stainless Steel [A photo of someone spraying shaving cream on a stainless steel fridge.]( Skip the special cleaner for steel appliances and fixtures and use shaving cream instead. As strange as it might sound, there are multiple cleaning tasks you can tackle with the help of a can of shaving cream, and one of those tasks is cleaning stainless steel. Whether it's an appliance, sink, or fixture, shaving cream will not only get rid of grime and smudges, but leave it looking extra shiny too. Just apply a small amount of a regular shaving cream (Barbasol works well) to a cleaning rag and use it to wipe the stainless steel surface. Wipe off any excess shaving cream, then use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to buff the steel surface until it shines. The combination of soap and moisturizers in shaving cream are what make it work so well for cleaning stainless steel. The soap breaks down any grime on the surface, then the moisturizers in the remaining residue leave the steel surface gleaming! JILLEE'S PICK Top Gun: Maverick [A promotional image for Top Gun: Maverick.]( Before the pandemic, I was regular moviegoer. And although movie theaters have had their doors open again for months, I’d yet to really get “back in the saddle,” so to speak, until recently. Despite the fact that it came out in May, it wasn't until last week that I saw the sequel to Top Gun at the movie theater. It was quite a blast from the past, and a very entertaining one too! I was in my early 20s when Top Gun came out, and I remember loving it. I assumed a sequel could never live up to the original, but in this instance I was very pleased to be proven wrong! I very much enjoyed Top Gun: Maverick, and for many of the same reasons that I enjoyed the original. The air to air combat scenes were absolutely thrilling, and the incredible cinematography made the movie a feast for the eyes. I give it 5 stars and a thumbs up, and I highly recommend it for an enjoyable trip down memory lane! YOUR ONE GOOD THING Use Vinegar, Soap, And Sugar To Catch Flies Barbara B. from Mississippi has a great tip for dealing with flies: "Instead of hanging strips of brown paper around, I set ‘shot’ glasses around with vinegar (I use ACV), a splash of Dawn and a little sugar wherever I see gnats or flies. I also set a dish (usually about 9” by 4” and 2 1/2” deep) on the window sill to catch flies. Just yesterday it had 7 dead flies in it." According to [Control Household Insect Pests]( from the Mississippi State University Extension, “Insects and spiders are abundant in Mississippi; we have thousands of species.” I could have guessed as much, Barbara, but it confirmed my suspicions that you likely have plenty of experience with insects! We don't get a lot of fruit flies where I live, but I know my daughter has used a method like the one you describe to catch fruit flies in her apartment. Whether you use this method or the DIY flypaper I shared recently is a matter of preference, but it’s like I always say—it’s nice to have options! Have a great tip or trick of your own?
