August 22, 2022 [View Online]( Good morning! I’ve written extensively on my blog about the many ways hydrogen peroxide can come in handy around the house, but we’re getting more specific in Today’s Good Thing. The 7 beauty tips I’m sharing today will give you 7 reasons to keep a bottle of peroxide in your bathroom cupboard. The latest Monday Motivation centers on something that’s often easier said than done for those of us prone to anxiety: taking action. I hope it inspires you to do a little less worrying, a little more doing, and to give yourself the credit you deserve. Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING 7 Amazing Beauty & Hygiene Hacks In One Brown Bottle [Photos of beauty and hygiene uses for hydrogen peroxide.]( It’s useful all over the house, but these peroxide tips highlight its usefulness in personal care. Hydrogen peroxide is undoubtedly one of the most useful things I keep under my kitchen sink. From cleaning to laundry to personal care, there’s not much that distinctive brown bottle can’t help with. And despite having written about it on my blog since the very beginning, I’m still discovering new ways to use it 11 years later! And although hydrogen peroxide isn’t the first aid staple it once was, there are still plenty of reasons to keep a bottle in your bathroom cabinet. I’ll be sharing 7 of them with you today, in the form of 7 ways to use hydrogen peroxide for beauty, hygiene, and personal care. From the top of your head to the tips of your toes, hydrogen peroxide is useful in all sorts of ways. (It’s inexpensive too, which is a nice bonus!) After reading these tips, you might be reaching for that brown bottle a lot more often. The time we spend cleaning our homes can be rewarding, but I don’t think any of us wants to spend more time cleaning than we have to. But if you’re sweeping your floors with a broom full of dirt, hair, and dust, it's almost certain to take longer to get the same results you would with a clean broom. But it doesn’t take long to keep your broom relatively clean. After every few uses, take your broom outside and knock it against something to shake off excess dirt from the bristles. Alternatively, you could remove dirt from the bristles using your vacuum. Then once a month or so, deep clean your broom by soaking the bristles in warm, soapy water for an hour or so. Rinse it clean under running water, then let it dry completely before using it again. You’ll be shocked at what a difference it makes! STAY SAFE OUT THERE Blame Perpetrators, Not Victims [A photo of an older woman looking stressed.]( Whenever a victim is shamed into silence, scammers’ lives get a little bit easier. Just as in instances of violence, assault, or theft, the blame for fraud lies with the perpetrator alone. Blaming fraud victims for being taken advantage of is not only unfair, but it can also shame victims into staying silent rather than reporting fraud to the authorities. Anyone can fall victim to fraud, but we often try to convince ourselves otherwise. We tell ourselves we're savvier or less gullible than people who have gotten ripped off. But not only is that untrue, it also fails to account for the fact that many scammers are good at what they do! Victim blaming is surprisingly common in news coverage too. Headlines like "Man loses $150,000 in Facebook romance scam" are a lot more common than those that state who's actually to blame. (A better headline might be "Facebook romance scammer steals $150,000 from local man.") If you lost money or something of value to a crook, the last thing you'd want to hear is that you should have known better. We can all help to change the conversation about fraud by expressing more compassion toward victims and encouraging those around us to do the same. MONDAY MOTIVATION The Right Time Is Right Now “It's a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you're ready. I have this feeling now that no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.” - Hugh Laurie For some people, it's easy to spend so much time dreaming or planning that they never actually get to the point of taking action. There’s nothing wrong with thinking things through before taking a leap, but at a certain point, you have to accept that it's impossible to prepare for every single thing that might happen afterward. Every unexpected event in your life, everything that arrived out of the blue and turned your life upside down—you survived them all. And if you survived all those events, despite not being prepared for them, that suggests you can survive anything life might throw at you! Everything we try in life comes with a risk of failure, but there are worse things in life than failing. Nothing is guaranteed—not success, not failure, not even our own futures. The only time we have is now, and the only thing we can do is try.
