August 16, 2022 [View Online]( Good morning! I may not personally like the way it tastes, but I’d much rather save club soda to use around the house anyway! In Today’s Good Thing, I’m sharing 10 of the most practical household uses for club soda, from cleaning to cooking and beyond. And in a new Poll of the Week, I’m curious to know which housekeeping duties you’d hand off, given the opportunity. Whether you’d rather delegate grocery shopping, clerical work, or closet organizing, be sure to weigh in by submitting a response below. Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING 10 Club Soda Tips That Prove It's As Useful As Ever [Photos of various uses for club soda.]( Not a fan of the taste? Here are 10 good reasons to keep club soda on hand anyway. When it comes to famous folk remedies, few can boast the same sort of staying power as club soda. Our moms and grandmas rarely missed an opportunity to recommend it for this mess or that stain (and I’m sure they wouldn’t miss the opportunity to say “I told you so” if they read today’s tips either!) So what makes club soda such a time-honored household helper? Water is a powerful solvent in its own right, but the carbonation and added minerals give club soda an additional edge when used for cleaning, as a remedy, and even in the kitchen. Check out 10 of the best household uses for club soda below. By the time you finish reading, I think you’ll agree that if someone started a Folk Remedy Hall of Fame, club soda would belong in the inaugural class! After covering cloud basics and iCloud, today we're continuing our ongoing series about the cloud with a discussion about storing photos in the cloud. This is one of the most popular ways people use cloud storage for a couple of reasons. First, having your photos stored in the cloud is convenient, because it allows you to access them from any device with an internet connection. Second, since photo files tend to be on the larger side, storing your photos in the cloud can help you free up storage space on your phone or computer for other files and apps. If you have an iPhone, check whether or not you’re using iCloud Photos by going to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos. If the toggle next to iCloud Photos is off, you can turn it on there. (If you have a lot of photos, it will take some time to upload them all, so it’s best to do it when you’re connected to your home Wi-Fi network.) Android users can store their photos in the cloud using a similar option in Google Photos. Open the Google Photos app, then tap your account profile photo or initial at the top right of the screen. Go to Photo settings > Back up & sync, then tap Back up & sync to turn it on. The number of photos you’ll be able to store in the cloud depends on the size of the files and how much storage you have available. You get 5 GB for free with an iCloud account, and 15 GB with a Google account. If you hit those limits, you can choose to pay a small monthly fee for upgraded storage. COOKING Fresh Fruit Sorbet In A Bag [Photos of strawberry sorbet.]( When life gives you ripe, flavorful fruit, make fruit sorbet—there’s nothing better on a hot day. If there’s one thing my fellow fruit fiends should do before summer is over, it’s try their hand at making fruit sorbet. You only need a couple of ziplock bags and some ripe fruit to do it—berries, bananas, peaches, plums, and mangoes are all excellent choices! Here's how to make it: Start by pouring 1 cup of pureed fruit into a quart-sized ziplock bag, then seal the bag securely. (If your puree isn't very sweet or very thick, adding some sugar will help. You can add up to 1/4 cup or so depending on your desired sweetness and texture.) Open a gallon-size ziplock bag and add 1 cup of water, 1 cup of rock salt or ice cream salt, and 2 cups of ice. Place the bag of fruit puree into the larger bag, then seal the larger bag securely. Gently massage the bags 8-10 minutes, until the liquid in the smaller bag starts to firm up. Remove the smaller bag and either scoop your finished sorbet out with a spoon, or snip off a corner of the bag with scissors and squeeze the sorbet into a bowl, then dig in. Michener](. It was a truly unforgettable reading experience, and I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in history, archaeology, or religion. In The Source, Michener tells the story of the development of religion across human history through the lens of an archaeological dig in Israel. The deeper the dig goes, the further the author takes you into the past, going all the way back to the genesis of religion among cave dwellers at the very dawn of time. The book covers some 13,000 years of religious history, which I realize might sound extremely tedious, but that wasn’t the case at all (or at least it wasn't for me!) It is a long read though—I ended up taking a weeklong break about halfway through—but one that is well worth the time and effort. There is also a considerable amount of violence described in detail in this book, but history is bloody and the story reflects that. I found certain parts challenging to read for that reason, but if someone as squeamish as myself made it through, I’m sure any adult can! [See The Source by James A.
