Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING Grow Your Best Garden Ever By Avoiding These 8 Mistakes [Photos of Jillee gardening.]( By avoiding these common mistakes, you won’t have to learn these lessons the hard way. I spend a lot of time in my garden during the summer, both working on it and enjoying it too. (That’s why I put in all the effort, after all!) I’ve been proud of the way my garden has been shaping up in recent years, and I’m sure it’s because all the lessons I’ve learned the hard way are finally paying off! I started gardening with intention nearly 30 years ago, after we moved from California to our mountain valley here in Utah. I didn’t inherit my mom’s instinct for gardening like some of my sisters did, but we had great flower beds surrounding our new house and I was determined to fill them with beautiful flowers. I made plenty of mistakes, but now that I have experience and the benefit of hindsight, I know that many of them were very common and easy to avoid. I'll break down 8 of the most common gardening mistakes for you today, in hopes that it helps you make this gardening season your best one ever. From crowding plants to shallow planting, there are a lot of little things that can hold your garden back and prevent it from thriving. So head to the link below and learn what not to do to make sure your garden is as happy and healthy as possible. Early last year, I wrote [this blog post]( about some upgrades I’d recently made to our relatively small laundry room. (The space itself isn't that small, but it also serves as our mudroom, garage access, and backyard access, so there’s just a lot going on in there!) I’m still really happy with all the functional upgrades I mentioned in that post, and they’ve helped me make better use of the space I have. But now, thanks to the “[30+ Best Laundry Room Ideas to Freshen Up Your Space](” slideshow on The Pioneer Woman, I'm thinking about making a few decorative upgrades too. The very first slide had a tip about using wallpaper in your laundry room, and it featured a photo from my friend [Maria at Two Peas & Their Pod](. I haven't seriously considered putting wallpaper anywhere in my home before, but I'm definitely thinking about it now after seeing how nice it looks in Maria’s laundry room. I've always gravitated toward the clean look of light-colored walls, but I think a small area like the laundry room could be the perfect place to try out a fun, patterned wallpaper, don't you? (If you have any laundry room decor tips or wallpaper sources to share, reply to this email and let me know!) BEAUTY The Simple Cure For Creasing Eyeshadow [An image of Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion.]( Aging skin can lead to eyeshadow issues, but there’s a simple fix that will help it stay put. Some people are born with hooded eyelids, while others develop them as they age and their skin loses its elasticity. Either way, hooded eyelids can make getting your eyeshadow to stay put feel like a losing battle. Hooded eyelids generate a lot of friction as your eyes open and close, pushing eyeshadow into the creases of your eyelids and creating that annoying line of darker color. But there’s a simple solution to these eyeshadow woes: [eyeshadow primer](. Applying a primer to your eyelids works a lot like applying a primer to a wall before painting it—it gives the eyeshadow something to stick to and helps it form a more durable bond. If you’ve never used an eyeshadow primer before, you’ll be amazed at what a difference it makes. Your eyeshadow will show significantly less creasing and you won’t have to apply as much to achieve the look you want. It's a win-win! WHAT IN THE WORLD WIDE WEB The Dazzling Delights Of 100,000 Stars [A GIF showing someone zooming in on the 100,000 Stars website.]( I often find it difficult to grasp exactly how vast our galaxy is, but I recently came across a great visual aid: [100,000 Stars](. The site was built as a Chrome Experiment, which are experimental web projects created by coders using tools and resources available from Google. This particular experiment provides users with a view of our interstellar “neighborhood,” the Milky Way galaxy. Drag the bar on the right side of the screen down to zoom out and see the entire galaxy (or an artist’s rendering of our galaxy), or drag the bar up to zoom all the way in to the sun at the center of our solar system. One thing that struck me was how far Neptune is from the sun compared to the inner planets. I also gained a new appreciation of how isolated our solar system is. The nearest star system, Alpha Centauri, is 4.3 light years away, or 3,400 times the distance you'd have to travel to get from one end of our solar system to the other. Nothing like a little galactic exploration to put things into perspective! [Check out 100,000 Stars]( for a beautiful look at our place in the universe. A FEW MORE THINGS...
