PLUS: 3 simple and frugal tips for spending less, a brilliant hack for getting rid of flies, and more. June 9, 2022 [View Online]( TOGETHER WITH [LMNT]( Good morning! Summer heat leads to sweating, and nothing can undermine your confidence in your personal hygiene as swiftly and soundly as sweating. But in Today’s Good Thing, I’m sharing a simple DIY that can help you feel confident in your freshness throughout the warm weather to come. And in today's Why Didn’t I Think Of That? segment, there’s a great tip about another of summer’s less fun features: flies. Find out how one Reddit user kills flies easily below. Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING This Easy DIY Will Keep You Feeling Fresh As A Daisy [Photos of a homemade feminine wash.]( Not only is it easy to make, but this gentle foaming cleanser is ideal for even the most sensitive skin. While most of the tips I share can be useful to any homemaker, regardless of gender, I do occasionally share tips that are specific to women's issues and experiences. Today will be one of those occasions, because this particular DIY pertains to feminine hygiene. More specifically, we’re talking about feminine washes/cleansers. While it's not exactly necessary for every woman to use one, many women appreciate having a special cleanser to help keep their external genitalia clean and fresh. With any feminine wash, it’s important to make sure that its ingredients are gentle and non-irritating. But instead of spending hours reading ingredient lists, why not just make your own feminine wash at home instead? The formula that I'll be sharing with you today features a handful of natural ingredients like witch hazel, rose water, and castile soap. And while this gentle foaming cleanser is great for keeping things fresh “down there,” it works just as well as a hand soap or body wash too! Summer heat can throw a wrench into our hygiene routines, but making and using this gentle feminine cleanser is as simple a solution as you could hope for. Follow the link below to learn how it's done so you can stay fresh throughout the season. Spray Flies, Then Swat Them [A photo of Jillee using a spray bottle.]( If you struggle with swatting flies, this tip will make the process a lot easier. I don’t raise my voice very often these days—one of the perks of having adult kids—but I’m likely to do so if someone leaves the door open during the summer. That lets flies in, and I hate having flies in the house. Not only are they really annoying, but I’m not very good at killing them either! I just don’t have the lightning-fast reflexes that fly swatting requires, but I recently learned there’s an easier way to incapacitate flies. According to a Reddit user in the Life Pro Tips subreddit, spraying flies with a spray bottle of water is the way to go. Apparently, flies have a harder time sensing water approaching them than a fly swatter, and if water gets on their wings, it compromises their ability to fly. Once the flies fall to the ground, it’s just a matter of swatting or stepping on them. Now that sounds like an approach even I could pull off! SAVE MONEY 3 Easy Ways To Be More Frugal [Photos of potlucks, jeans, and a phone in a protective case.]( Saving money doesn't have to hurt—with easy tips like these, it can be downright painless. 1. Less Going Out, More Potlucks. Instead of getting together with friends at a restaurant or bar, try instituting a regular potluck night instead. Everyone can bring something to the table, literally and figuratively, and you’ll have just as much fun with friends while spending a lot less money than you have otherwise. 2. Take Care Of Your Stuff. One of the easiest ways to be more frugal is to take good care of the things you already own. Protect pricier electronics like smartphones and tablets with protective cases, and take your car in for regular maintenance in order to avoid more expensive repairs down the road. 3. Wash As Needed. Jeans and sweaters don’t need to be washed as often as t-shirts and underwear. Washing your clothes on an “as needed” basis will not only save you some water, but your clothes will ultimately last longer and save you money in the long run. JILLEE'S PICK Lawn And Order [An image of a t-shirt that says ]( I’m sure I’m not the only one whose spouse is… intense about lawn care. Dave has always been that way, even in our previous house that didn’t have automated sprinklers. Dave was our de facto sprinkler system, spending many of his evenings dragging a sprinkler to a new area of the lawn at regular intervals. It was Dave’s dedication to lawn care that sprang to mind when I came across [this “Lawn Enforcement Officer” t-shirt]( on Amazon. I can’t think of a more appropriate t-shirt for the man who routinely drives our youngest son Sten crazy with his lawn-related zealotry. I thought I’d share this t-shirt with you here, just in case you wanted to get one as a gift for the lawn care specialist in your life too! ASK JILLEE Prevent Grimy Buildup In The Gaps Of Your Utensils Melody had a question about gunky spatulas: "While washing my spatula after making muffin batter, I noticed it looked black inside the channel where the spatula slides over the handle. I pulled off the spatula [head] and the inside had black moldy gunk in it. I have 4 spatulas in all, and I took a look at the other 3 and found the same thing. After cleaning them all thoroughly, I wanted to ask if you have ever seen this and if I can prevent it. I hate to think [about] adding that stuff to my batter!" Great question Melody! Who among us doesn't have their own version of this story? For instance, I once realized that the truly vile smell I couldn't locate the source of was coming from an old pot of water that was used to steam broccoli. (Honestly, that smell will haunt me for life!) But back to those spatulas. Your experience is a good reminder to all of us that silicone utensil heads aren’t always attached to their handles. If the heads can be removed, there’s more than enough space for gunk to get stuck between the head and handle and build up over time. The simplest way to avoid this is to do what Melody did—remove the head from the handle and clean out those hard-to-clean areas. You don’t necessarily need to do it every day—once a week or so should be plenty. Oh, and be sure the heads and handles are completely dry before putting them back together!
