PLUS: The most effective way to treat fruit stains, a brilliant tip about washing your face, and more. May 25, 2022 [View Online]( Good morning! Lately I’ve been getting a lot of mileage out of the recipe I’m sharing with you in Today’s Good Thing. Creamy, cozy, and just plain delicious, these chicken and dumplings are sure to be a welcome sight on your dinner table any night of the week. And with Memorial Day barbecues on the docket this weekend, the tip in Wash It Wednesday is more than likely to come in handy. Find out about a surefire way to vanish fruit stains in a flash below. Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING This Is Comfort Food Made Quick And Easy [Photos of chicken and dumplings.]( Chicken and dumplings are the ultimate in comfort food and easy to get on the table. There are few better remedies for a long and difficult day than good old fashioned comfort food. While what qualifies as “comforting” can vary by geography and taste, certain dishes unquestionably carry the title of comfort food, including chicken and dumplings. Chicken and dumplings is one of those foods that has a way of putting you at ease. Between the comforting, savory broth and those light, fluffy dumplings, you know you’re going to leave the table feeling cozy and well-fed. While they weren’t a regular part of my mom’s repertoire, I do remember her making chicken and dumplings a few times when I was a girl, and it always felt like a special treat. I also find the history of this dish fascinating. According to [Saveur](, while the first recorded American recipe resembling chicken and dumplings dates back to the 1830s, various forms of dumplings had been popular in Europe for at least 200 years before that point. (The more things change...) The creamy chicken and dumplings recipe I'm sharing today is one that the whole family is sure to love. And while it’s already a cinch to make and comes together in under an hour, I’ve included a couple of optional shortcuts that will make it even easier. See the recipe at the link below. Memorial Day weekend is nearly upon us, and I expect many of us will soon be kicking off the summer season with cookouts and backyard barbecues. And since cookouts often feature fruit—usually fresh fruit or a fruit-based dessert—there's no better time to bone up on how to deal with fruit-stained clothing. Those red, blue, and purple-hued stains that fruit leaves behind can seem daunting, but there's a simple trick that can make them disappear before your eyes. Here's how to do it: 1. Turn the stained item inside out, position the stained area over a colander or sieve, then use a rubber band to secure it in place. 2. Bring some water to a boil, then slowly (and carefully!) pour the boiling water onto the stain over your sink and watch it disappear. 3. When the stain is no longer visible, hang the item outside to dry to take advantage of the sun’s natural stain-fighting power. For best results, treat fruit stains as quickly as possible. And keep in mind that while this trick works like a charm on fruit-based stains, it should not be used on blood stains and other stains that can be set by hot water. BEAUTY Wash Your Face With Cold Water [Photos of Jillee washing her face.]( It may not sound ideal, but there are benefits to using cold water when washing your face. In pretty much every TV show or movie featuring a grizzled detective, there’s a scene where he deals with the mounting stress of the case by going into the bathroom, rolling up his sleeves, and splashing cold water on his face. It’s a sound strategy for stress relief (a nice surprise given that many of these characters have much more dubious coping mechanisms), but there are plenty of other reasons to choose cold water whenever you wash your face. While full submersion in cold water can lead to severe and possibly fatal shock, splashing it on your face can shock you in a good way. It can help you feel more awake and alert, and it can feel quite refreshing on a hot day or when you wake up feeling overheated. Additionally, washing your face with cold water can be good for your skin by calming inflammation, reducing redness, and making your pores less visible. Especially for those with skin prone to redness or puffiness, washing your face with cold water is a no-brainer.
