May 20, 2022 [View Online]( Good morning! While I try not to concern myself with looking âyoung,â I don't really want to look older than I am either. Todayâs Good Thing is packed with tips that will help you avoid the subtle grooming and style choices that often look more passé than put-together. And in a somewhat ironic new Remember When, I'm dating myself by reflecting on some of the groundbreaking inventions from my youth. All of them are ancient history today, but I remember them fondly all the same. Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING 9 Grooming & Style Mistakes That Make You Look Older [Photos of various grooming and style tips.]( Dressing to impress? Avoid these 9 things that can undermine even the most polished look. 1. Dirty Shoes. Pairing extremely worn or excessively dirty shoes with a stylish outfit can ruin the effect of an otherwise put-together look. You can quickly clean up leather, canvas, and other types of shoes by wiping them down with a damp cloth, and suede shoes clean up easily with a few swipes of a suede brush.
2. Pet Hair And Lint. Pet hair is no big deal when youâre hanging out around the house, but it isn't an ideal accessory when youâre trying to look professional. Before you leave the house, run a lint roller over your shoulders, arms, legs, and backside to remove any lint, pet hair, or human hair from your clothes.
3. Pills. Itâs always cardigan season as far as Iâm concerned, and I keep them looking nice by regularly removing pills that can make sweaters look more frumpy than fashionable. A few passes of a fabric shaver can make even the oldest sweater look brand new!
4. Chipped Nail Polish. In general, polish-free fingernails tend to make a better impression (or at least draw less attention) than chipped nail polish. If you do your own nails, be sure to touch up chipped areas regularly, and if you get them done at a salon, consider bringing your own polish to make touch ups easier.
5. Overpowering Perfume. If youâre desensitized to the strength of your perfume, it can be easy to go overboard when applying it, which may send the message that you lack self-awareness. If youâre not sure about the intensity of your perfume, ask a trusted friend or family member for their honest opinion.
6. Lipstick On Your Teeth. Anyone can end up with lipstick on their teeth, but like overpowering perfume, it can signal a lack of self-awareness. But thereâs an easy way to avoid itâafter applying lipstick, put a (clean) finger in your mouth, close your lips, and slide your finger out to remove lipstick from the inside of your lips. In the words of Darth Vader, "the circle is now complete." Now that weâre finished with our spring cleaning projects, itâs a great time to take stock of your arsenal of cleaning supplies and tools. I thought weâd tackle this timely project as our Weekend Cleaning Challenge, along with cleaning and organizing the area we store them in. Hereâs how I suggest going about it: 1. Remove Everything. Whether you keep your cleaning supplies under your sink or in a closet, the best way to start is by taking all your cleaning stuff out of wherever you keep it. This will make it much easier to take stock of everything you have so you can determine what you have and don't need, or need and donât have.
2. Take Inventory. Once all your cleaning products and tools are out of their storage area, make notes on what youâre low on or out of. If thereâs anything there you donât need or actually use, set it aside to donate or toss it out.
3. Clean The Area. With all your cleaning supplies and tools already close at hand, itâll be easy to clean the cupboard or closet where you keep them. If you end up cleaning any spills or messes, consider putting down some shelf liner or a silicone mat to make cleanup easier next time.
4. Make (Or Buy) What You Need. Before you put everything back where it belongs, [make more of any homemade cleaners]( youâre out of, or buy more of your preferred store-bought products. Donât forget to replace any cleaning tools that need replacing, like frayed brooms and worn-out mops.
5. Get Organized. Finally, replace all your cleaning products and tools in their dedicated storage spot in a neat and organized way. If you keep them under your kitchen sink, [the tips in this post]( could prove very useful indeed! UNUSUAL USES 3 Uses For Glass Cleaner (Apart From Cleaning Glass) [Photos of various uses for glass cleaner.]( Here are a few unexpected situations when âput some Windex on itâ is genuinely good advice. 1. Leave Fixtures Sparkling. After cleaning the metal fixtures in your bathroom and kitchen, spray a clean, dry cloth with a glass cleaner like Windex and use it to give your fixtures one last wipedown. Glass cleaner will not only pick up any last bits of lint, but its quick drying formula leaves metal surfaces extra shiny.
2. Shine Patent Leather. Glass cleaner isnât only useful for cleaning and shining windows and mirrorsâyou can also use it to restore shine to patent leather. Just spray a bit of glass cleaner onto a soft lint-free cloth and wipe down your patent leather to clean it up and add a high shine.
3. Move Heavy Appliances. The next time you need to slide your oven or fridge a few inches, spray glass cleaner liberally onto the floor in front of your appliance. This will lubricate the floor and the feet of your appliance and make it slide with much less effort. (If you have wood floors, use an ammonia-free formula.) REMEMBER WHEN 3 Inventions That Were Life-Changing Way Back When [A vintage photo of a Kodak Instamatic camera with a Flashcube.]( 1. VCRs. When the videocassette recorder, or VCR, started gaining traction on the market in the mid â70s, that meant we suddenly had a way to record something that was airing on TV so we could watch it again whenever we wanted. It was a mind-blowing concept back then that changed the way we watched television.
2. Kodak Flashcubes. In the mid â60s, the Kodak Flashcube revolutionized photography for amateurs and parents hoping to capture those precious family memories. When paired with a Kodak Instamatic camera, the four flashes each cube could produce made it possible to take photos indoors and in low light (though they also gave us all redeye!)
3. Sta-Tab Cans. Prior to 1975, soda and beer were sold in "pop top" cans, which had a pull tab that would remove a piece of the canâs lid. Because pop tops came off the can, they were inevitably a huge source of litter. That changed when modern "sta-tab" cans caught on in the late â70s, eliminating pop tops as a source of both litter and finger injuries for good. A FEW MORE THINGS...
