Pairing extremely worn or excessively dirty shoes with a stylish outfit can ruin the effect of an otherwise put-together look. You can quickly clean up leather, canvas, and other types of shoes by wiping them down with a damp cloth, and suede shoes clean up easily with a few swipes of a suede brush. 2. Pet Hair And Lint. Pet hair is no big deal when you’re hanging out around the house, but it isn't an ideal accessory when you’re trying to look professional. Before you leave the house, run a lint roller over your shoulders, arms, legs, and backside to remove any lint, pet hair, or human hair from your clothes. 3. Pills. It’s always cardigan season as far as I’m concerned, and I keep them looking nice by regularly removing pills that can make sweaters look more frumpy than fashionable. A few passes of a fabric shaver can make even the oldest sweater look brand new! 4. Chipped Nail Polish. In general, polish-free fingernails tend to make a better impression (or at least draw less attention) than chipped nail polish. If you do your own nails, be sure to touch up chipped areas regularly, and if you get them done at a salon, consider bringing your own polish to make touch ups easier. 5. Overpowering Perfume. If you’re desensitized to the strength of your perfume, it can be easy to go overboard when applying it, which may send the message that you lack self-awareness. If you’re not sure about the intensity of your perfume, ask a trusted friend or family member for their honest opinion. 6. Lipstick On Your Teeth. Anyone can end up with lipstick on their teeth, but like overpowering perfume, it can signal a lack of self-awareness. But there’s an easy way to avoid it—after applying lipstick, put a (clean) finger in your mouth, close your lips, and slide your finger out to remove lipstick from the inside of your lips. In the words of Darth Vader, "the circle is now complete." Now that we’re finished with our spring cleaning projects, it’s a great time to take stock of your arsenal of cleaning supplies and tools. I thought we’d tackle this timely project as our Weekend Cleaning Challenge, along with cleaning and organizing the area we store them in. Here’s how I suggest going about it: 1. Remove Everything. Whether you keep your cleaning supplies under your sink or in a closet, the best way to start is by taking all your cleaning stuff out of wherever you keep it. This will make it much easier to take stock of everything you have so you can determine what you have and don't need, or need and don’t have. 2. Take Inventory. Once all your cleaning products and tools are out of their storage area, make notes on what you’re low on or out of. If there’s anything there you don’t need or actually use, set it aside to donate or toss it out. 3. Clean The Area. With all your cleaning supplies and tools already close at hand, it’ll be easy to clean the cupboard or closet where you keep them. If you end up cleaning any spills or messes, consider putting down some shelf liner or a silicone mat to make cleanup easier next time. 4. Make (Or Buy) What You Need. Before you put everything back where it belongs, [make more of any homemade cleaners]( you’re out of, or buy more of your preferred store-bought products. Don’t forget to replace any cleaning tools that need replacing, like frayed brooms and worn-out mops. 5. Get Organized. Finally, replace all your cleaning products and tools in their dedicated storage spot in a neat and organized way.
