May 18, 2022 [View Online]( Good morning! When it comes to DIY, I’ve accepted there are certain things I just can't replicate satisfactorily at home, but reusable food wrap is not one of them. I’ll show you how to make your own, and share the many benefits of doing so, in Today’s Good Thing. And if you get songs stuck in your head as frequently as I do, you'll love today's What In The World Wide Web. I'll tell you how Google can help you identify a song from its melody alone. Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING Yes, Making Reusable Food Wrap Really Is This Easy [Photos of the process of making DIY reusable food wrap.]( Save money and eliminate waste by making yourself a set of these DIY reusable food wraps. In an ongoing effort to reduce food waste, I’ve recently been making an effort to keep things I would normally deem too small to be worth keeping, like a small chunk of cheese or a half-used can of pumpkin. I've enjoyed the creative challenge of finding ways to use up those smaller amounts of food, but it has occurred to me that storing those foods in disposable bags, aluminum foil, or plastic wrap kind of defeats the purpose of the exercise. Luckily, I vaguely remembered writing a blog post about reusable food wrap several years ago, so all I had to do was revisit that project to jog my memory. And I’m happy to report that making reusable food wrap with beeswax is not only easy and affordable, but it keeps food fresh with zero waste too. You can make reusable food wraps in any size in just a few minutes and they’ll last a very long time. And should the wax soften or wear down over time, you can always add fresh wax to refresh and revive your wraps As far as DIYs go, it’s hard to beat one that can reduce food waste, reduce resource waste, and save you money at the same time. So check out my simple tutorial for making your own reusable food wraps by following the link below! Even if it hasn’t happened to you personally, it’s not hard to imagine pulling out your rarely-worn strapless bra only to realize the band is now a bit too snug for comfort. In a situation like this, you may only need a little extra breathing room to make that strapless bra work for a special occasion outfit. That’s why I suggest having at least one [elastic bra extender]( on hand. You can find them online at places like Amazon for just a few dollars, and they’re available in any style you might need—double loop, triple loop, nude, white, black, etc. They’re really easy to use too. Just attach the hooks on the bra extender to your bra's loops, then hook the other side of your bra to the loops on the extender. Most extenders will add an extra 2-3 inches to your band depending on which set of loops you use. Especially in a time when money is tight for many of us, it’s good to know there’s a way to make a bra you already own work in a pinch. That way you won’t have to spend $50 or more on a new bra you may not actually need. BEAUTY You Better Check Yourself (For Skin Cancer) [A social media graphic from the Skin Cancer Foundation for Skin Cancer Awareness Month.]( For me, Skin Cancer Awareness Month recently took on a new (and much more literal) meaning. Recently as I was getting ready to hop in the shower, I saw something dark in the mirror out of the corner of my eye. I took a closer look and realized there was a dark spot on my back that I’d never seen before, which concerned me given the many sun-drenched days I spent outside as an adolescent. So I called my dermatologist and made an appointment to have it checked out, and sure enough, the dark spot on my back was a [squamous cell carcinoma](, the second most common form of skin cancer. Unfortunately, the bad news didn't stop there. The dermatologist also confirmed that a spot on my foot (which I hadn’t noticed at all) was a [basal cell carcinoma](, the most common form of skin cancer. Luckily, both squamous and basal cell carcinomas are highly treatable when caught early like mine were. After Dave's colon cancer diagnosis and treatment last summer, this was another reminder of how important it is to get exams that can catch cancer early. I’m very glad I chose to get that spot checked out! The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends that adults see a dermatologist once a year for a skin exam. Between exams, you should do what I did and contact your doctor or dermatologist about anything new, changing, or unusual on your skin. WHAT IN THE WORLD WIDE WEB Serenade Your Song Search [A GIF showing the process of using the Google Search app to find a song.]( While many voice assistants and apps can tell you what song is playing in a cafe or on the radio, they aren't much use when the song you want to identify is one that's stuck in your head. And if you're anything like me, you may not even know enough of the song's lyrics to be able to look them up! Luckily, the folks at Google have added a feature to their search app that solves this age-old problem. Just tap the mic icon and hum, whistle, or sing the melody you’re thinking of for 10-15 seconds, and it will show you songs that closely match the musical “fingerprint” of the melody you provided. Even if you could only hum a memorable bass line—"dunn dun dun dun dun dunn dunnnn"—this musical search feature would still be able to identify the song as ["Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes](. And if the only part of the song stuck in your brain is the one that goes "la la la, la la la laa laaa," you could sing it to Google and learn you've been singing the aptly titled ["Can't Get You Out of My Head" by Kylie Minogue.]( Give this search method a try in the [Google Search app](, or by asking Google Assistant, “Hey Google, what’s this song?” A FEW MORE THINGS...
