April 29, 2022 [View Online]( TOGETHER WITH [LMNT]( Good morning! If you’ve been waking up with puffy eyes lately, you’re far from the only one! But I'm not just offering condolences—I've got helpful solutions too. Check out 7 easy ways to soothe puffy eyes and restore them to their normal, unpuffed state. Also in today’s newsletter, there's a new Remember When that anyone who had young kids during the '90s will relate to. From low-tech entertainment to the songs you still know the lyrics to, there are some things us parents will never forget! Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING 7 Simple Fixes That Will Soothe Your Puffy Eyes [Photos of Jillee using remedies for puffy eyes.]( No one likes waking up to swollen or puffy eyes, but these easy remedies will help in a hurry. 1. Use Eye Drops. If your eyes are both puffy and itchy, allergies are a likely culprit. Using a combination of eye drops to flush out irritants and an antihistamine to counteract allergy symptoms should sort you out in no time. 2. Elevate Your Head. If you normally only have puffy eyes in the morning, try elevating your heat higher while you sleep. Adding an extra pillow or two can help prevent fluid buildup around your eyes. 3. Treat Your Eyes. There are plenty of all-natural options for soothing irritated eyes and reducing swelling. Resting chilled black tea bags or cucumber slices on your eyelids are both easy and effective options! 4. Check Your Diet. Both salt and alcohol intake can cause your body to retain more water (among several other things), so if you struggle with puffy eyes regularly, cleaning up your diet can help. 5. Drink More Water. Dehydration makes inflammation worse, so be sure to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water during the day, and don’t forget that fresh fruits and vegetables contain water too! 6. Chill Your Products. If you use an eye cream or moisturizer around your eyes, try storing it in your fridge. Not only will the cold cream feel soothing, but it will constrict the blood vessels around your eyes and bring down swelling. 7. Give Yourself A Mini Massage. You can help promote the circulation of blood and fluid around your eyes by giving yourself a gentle massage. Focus on your cheekbone and eyebrow areas. Depending on how much you’ve been dreading the Weekend Cleaning Challenges during our spring cleaning season, you might be pleased to know we’re just a couple of weekends away from finishing! This weekend we’ll turn our attention to the all-important home office—or any area you work or create in! Here’s how I suggest making it happen: 1. Sort Through All Your Paperwork. Sorting paperwork can be a drag, but doing it first will make re-organizing later easier. Sort your documents into "keep" and "discard" piles, then shred any sensitive documents before discarding them. (If you have a shredder, ask your local recycling program about paper shreds before putting them in your bin.) 2. Organize The Remaining Documents. Once you’ve pared down your paperwork to just the important stuff, you’ll want to make sure it’s organized and easy to find. If you don’t have a filing system in place (or aren’t thrilled with your current one), get the scoop on [my preferred filing system](. 3. Clean And Organize Your Desk. You know what they say about cluttered desks! I suggest removing everything from the desktop and any drawers, cupboards, or shelves to start, then thoroughly cleaning all the surfaces before putting all your stuff back in a neat and organized fashion. 4. Dust Shelves And Decor. If you have any kind of shelving in your office (or whatever area you use as a home office!), don’t forget to dust the shelves and items on them. It might even be a good opportunity to [artfully rearrange your shelves]( to give your office an updated look and feel. 5. Tidy Up Office And Craft Supplies. Finally, make sure your office supplies and crafting materials are neatly contained and stored in a way that makes sense for your space. (And congratulate yourself for whipping your office back into shape!) UNUSUAL USES 3 Surprising Ways To Use Eggshells [Photos of various uses for eggshells.]( Walking on eggshells? Scoop them up and put them to good use with these 3 tips instead. 1. Make A Scouring Powder. Grind up spare eggshells to make an effective and non-toxic scouring powder for tough messes, like burnt gunk at the bottom of your pots and pans. Mix the ground eggshells with a little soapy water and scrub to power through messes with ease. 2. Fertilize And Defend Your Garden. Eggshells are rich in calcium that can help your garden thrive. Use them as a fertilizer during planting by grinding up a few eggshells and sprinkling a small amount into each hole. You can also scatter crushed eggshells around vegetables and flowers to keep garden pests at bay. 3. Make A Calcium Supplement. Eggshells consist almost entirely of calcium carbonate, so they make a great calcium supplement. Just dry several eggshells in your oven at 350°F for 8 minutes, then grind them to a fine powder. Add 1 teaspoon to juice or a smoothie once a day, or add it to your dog's food at a ratio of 1/2 teaspoon per pound of food. JILLEE'S PICK Posture Training Made Easy [A photo of Jillee wearing a posture corrector device.]( Slouching was always a pet peeve of my mom’s, so whenever I catch myself sitting hunched over at my computer, I can hear her telling me to “sit up straight!” But I don’t always notice that I’m sitting or standing with poor posture as it's happening, so the imagined chiding isn’t always helpful. But I know that bad posture can have lasting effects, so I thought I ought to start looking for ways to improve my posture. I ended up finding the [Bestand Pro Intelligent Posture Corrector]( on Amazon, a handy little device that you can stick to your back with adhesive pads, or hang from a lanyard and wear around your neck. If the device senses you slouching for more than 5 seconds, it vibrates to remind you to correct your posture. It also has an app you can use to adjust the settings, track your “posture training” progress, and more. I’ve only used it for a few days so far, but I'm already feeling more aware of my posture overall. [See the Bestand Pro Intelligent Posture Corrector on Amazon ➜]( REMEMBER WHEN 3 Things Parents Will Remember From The ‘90s [An image from ]( I got a kick out of reading [this article on Best Life]( recently about parenting during the 1990s. As all of my kids were born in that decade, I found a lot of it very relatable! Here are a few of the 25 items on the list I identified with most: #9 - “You could sing every lyric to The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King.” This one is particularly relatable because at the elementary school all my kids attended, the 3rd grade teachers staged a Disney-themed musical program that the 3rd graders would perform every year. So on top of hearing those songs when my kids watched Disney movies, I heard them over and over as they practiced for the program! The program was always very cute though, so I suppose a few permanently memorized Disney songs was a small price to pay. #14 - “You had to give your kid actual lunch money.” Before the days of convenient online payment portals, you either had to send your kids to school with a lunch from home, cash to buy lunch in the cafeteria, or pay for lunches in advance and keep the account current. Between my kids forgetting to tell me about school lunch charges and me forgetting to write the check for them to take to school, the relatively simple act of paying for school lunches was an ongoing headache during those years! #20 - “Kids were impossible to entertain during road trips.” We used to load the kids up and road trip to California every once in a while to visit my parents or siblings, and if I would have done anything for some kind of in-car entertainment on those trips. Instead, we entertained the kids the old fashioned way—car games, sing-a-longs, and the “quiet game” when the sing-a-longs got old. But eventually, the kids would always fall back on their own favorite form of road trip entertainment—physically harassing each other until someone had an emotional meltdown. A FEW MORE THINGS... A Tree-mendous Occasion: Good news for arborists, nature lovers, and all who enjoy shade—it’s National Arbor Day!
