April 27, 2022 [View Online]( Good morning! You’ll be getting a double dose of laundry wisdom in today’s newsletter, beginning with Today’s Good Thing. I’m sharing some of the many benefits of air drying your clothes and linens, as well as some important do’s and don’ts for getting the best results. And for Wash It Wednesday, you'll find a straightforward method for removing spilled paint from clothing. If your collection of “painting clothes” is threatening to outpace your unstained clothes, you should find this tip especially useful! Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING This Old School Laundry Hack Has A Laundry List Of Benefits [Photos of clothespins and Jillee hanging laundry on a drying rack.]( There’s a reason Grandma’s clothes seemed to last forever—she dried them the old fashioned way. For me, there’s nothing like the smell and feel of freshly laundered bedding that was dried in the sun, but those are far from the only benefits to air drying your laundry. For one, air drying can extend the lifespan of your clothes, especially for items with elastic. Machine drying can make elastic brittle and weak over time, eventually making your socks, underwear, workout clothes, and other items unwearable. Hanging your laundry to dry inside has benefits too. The moisture in your damp clothes adds humidity to your indoor air (which is a big plus in any season when you’re living in a desert!) Other benefits of air drying include saving electricity, saving money on laundry supplies, fewer set-in stains… I could go on and on! Plus, you don’t have to air dry all your clothing every time to enjoy its benefits—even doing it selectively can reduce pilling and shrinkage. In order to enjoy all the possible benefits of air drying your clothes, there are a few do’s and don’ts you should know about. You can check out over a dozen of the best tips and tricks for air drying laundry at the link below. Don’t give it up as a lost cause just yet—this tip can help you fix it. I think most of us know in our hearts and minds that starting a painting project while wearing clothes we wouldn't want to get paint on is just asking for trouble. Despite this knowledge, we barrel ahead anyway, and as is the case in pretty much every Greek myth, man's hubris is our undoing. But while many people consider spilled paint to be a death sentence for clothing, I'm here to tell you that's not the case! Not only can you remove paint stains, but it may be simpler than you think. Here’s how to do it: Lay the stained item on a flat surface and apply a generous amount of hand sanitizer to the stain. Scrub the stain with an old toothbrush until it starts to loosen as the ethanol dissolves the paint. As you work, blot the stain periodically with a damp rag or paper towel to lift the paint out of the fabric. It may take a while for all the paint to come out, so be patient and keep at it. (In cases where the paint is particularly stubborn, adding a bit of rubbing alcohol to the stain may help.) Once you’re confident you’ve removed all the paint, wash and dry the item as usual. I try to keep my heels in decent shape, but when life gets in the way, I often don’t realize how dry and cracked my heels have gotten until the situation is truly desperate. That's when I turn to this simple at-home exfoliating treatment that’s like a reset button for dry heels. For exfoliation, this treatment uses aspirin, which contains a close cousin of salicylic acid. The acid helps remove dry, dead skin cells to reveal the softer, smoother skin underneath. Combined with naturally acidic lemon juice, these two can dramatically improve the state of dry heels in just one treatment. Here's how to do it: Add 5-6 uncoated aspirin tablets (or 2-3 packets of aspirin powder) to a small mixing bowl, then fill a foot bath or dish pan with hot water. Soak your feet in the water for about 20 minutes, then dry off with a clean towel. Add the juice from 1 lemon to the aspirin and stir, mashing up the aspirin if needed, to form a gritty paste. Scoop up the paste and apply it to the sole of one foot, paying particular attention to the driest areas, then wrap your foot in plastic wrap. Repeat the process with your other foot, then pull on a pair of socks and wait for 2 hours. After 2 hours, rinse your feet thoroughly and gently scrub the loosened skin with a loofah or cloth—it should come off with little to no resistance. Rinse your feet again, dry them off, then apply a thick moisturizing lotion to your newly soft and smooth feet. This happened recently after I read War and Peace and The Grapes of Wrath—I enjoyed both, but reading them back-to-back was heavy (to say the least!) My search for a lighthearted pick-me-up led me to [The Code of the Woosters by P.G. Wodehouse](, starring the hilarious duo of Jeeves and Wooster. Bertie Wooster, a rich young Londoner, founders as he navigates several social entanglements, and it's up to Jeeves, his highly capable valet, to rescue Bertie and save the day. This book was every bit the joyful diversion I needed, and I enjoyed it so much that I looked up P.G. Wodehouse to see if he had written other books. (Boy, [did he ever](!) To my delight, Code of the Woosters is just one of many Jeeves and Wooster stories. According to [this very helpful reading list]( I found on a Wodehouse fan blog, I started somewhere in the middle of the suggested order of short stories and novels. But that just means I have plenty more joyful diversions with Jeeves and Wooster to look forward to! [See The Code of the Woosters by P.G. These slide sandals have turf footbeds, making them perfect for people who want to feel the grass between their toes without the hazards of going barefoot. 2. [Umbrella Hat](. A Coming Conjunction: Heads up, stargazers—over the next few days, Jupiter and Venus will be approaching [conjunction]( (AKA a meetup of two or more objects in the sky).
