April 15, 2022 [View Online]( Good morning! While some of the most popular makeup products people swear by do have steep price tags, you can achieve a similar look without spending a fortune. I’m sharing 9 inexpensive alternatives to popular, high-end makeup products in Today’s Good Thing. Also in today’s newsletter, it’s time to get back in the spring cleaning saddle with another Weekend Cleaning Challenge. I’m breaking down the process of cleaning your living room into a handful of simple steps—you’ll be done before you know it! Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING 9 Makeup Look-Alikes That Will Save You A Fortune [Photos of various inexpensive makeup products.]( These drugstore makeup "dupes" match the look of pricey, fan-favorite products at a fraction of the cost. While I’ve worn it nearly every day for decades, I’ve always had something of a love-hate relationship with makeup. Especially when you’re looking for higher quality products, even the basics can be really expensive! Fortunately, there are plenty of bargain-loving makeup enthusiasts out there who specialize in makeup “dupes”—shorthand for “duplicates”. A good makeup dupe closely matches the color, quality, and finish of a popular product from a high-end brand, but costs a lot less and is more widely available. Taking advantage of makeup dupes can be a great way to achieve the look you want without shelling out hundreds of dollars for makeup from luxury brands. And I’ve already done some of the legwork for you by tracking down the best dupes in every major makeup category. After scouring the web, I ended up with a list of 9 high-end product look-alikes that are less expensive, easier to find, and look nearly indistinguishable from their luxury counterparts. Check out some of the best dupes for popular primers, mascara, sponges, shadows, bronzer, BB creams, and blushes at the link below. After taking last weekend off, I’m feeling reenergized and ready to round out my spring cleaning. While we still have some work to do, we’ve already tackled a couple of the most formidable areas when it comes to cleaning—the kitchen and bathrooms. This weekend we’ll focus our attention on the living room. Here’s how I suggest going about it: 1. Wash Pillow Covers And Blankets. Spring cleaning is the perfect time to freshen up your throw pillows and blankets. Check out tips for [washing throw blankets here](—the process should be fairly similar for the removable covers on your throw pillows. 2. Dust Furniture And Surfaces. Dust your furniture, blinds, and [these frequently forgotten spots](. If the dust is especially heavy or grimy, [this dusting spray]( will help you cut through it, and these [14 dusting hacks]( will likely come in handy too. 3. Clean Fireplace And Mantle (If Needed). If you have a wood or electric fireplace, you probably won’t be using it much in the next several months, so this is a good time to clean it up. 4. Clean And Maintain Upholstery. Depending on the state of your armchairs and couches, you may be able to clean them on your own or they may benefit from professional cleaning. If you’re going the DIY route, here are some tips for cleaning [microfiber](, [leather](, and [cloth]( upholstery. 5. Clean Carpets Or Rugs. Like upholstery, carpets and rugs can be a simple DIY task or better left to a professional. For DIY direction, check out my [carpet cleaning guide]( and this simple method for [cleaning area rugs](. 6. Get Organized. Once your living room is clean, finish up by doing some decluttering and tidying up—these [15 tips for organizing your living room]( can help. SAVE MONEY 2 Ways To Save On Your Monthly Phone Bill [Photos of Jillee using and talking on her phone.]( Is cell service costing you an arm and a leg? Here are a couple of ways to lower your phone bill. 1. Stop Paying For A Mobile Hotspot. One common difference between carriers’ basic and premium plans is the ability to use your phone as a mobile hotspot when you need internet access and can’t connect to Wi-Fi. If your plan includes mobile hotspot coverage that you never use, you could save around $15 per line every month by switching to a plan without it. 2. Switch To A Smaller Provider. If you pay for wireless from one of the major providers like Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T, you can save quite a bit by switching to a smaller provider. The key is to know what you’re paying for—check what’s included in your current plan to find out if you’re paying for features you aren’t using. If so, switching to a smaller carrier like [Mint Mobile]( (which uses T-Mobile’s network) or [Visible]( (which uses Verizon’s network) can help you save without sacrificing service or coverage. JILLEE'S PICK Homes With… Character? [Photos from Zillow home listings featured on the Instagram account Zillow Gone Wild.]( If you’ve spent any time looking at home listings on Zillow—whether or not it was a serious search for a new residence—chances are you came across a few listings that stood out from the rest. You know, that house with the [Dwight Schrute-themed bathroom](, or the one with a lounge area [inspired by Delta SkyPriority](. If you’re like me and can never get enough of Zillow’s strangest home listings, then you’ll be happy to know that you can enjoy a steady diet of them by following Zillow Gone Wild ([@zillowgonewild]() on Instagram. The strangest and wildest aspects of any given home are usually hidden within a carousel of photos from the listing. I thought I would be annoyed by this, but I actually love it—it makes swiping through their photos feel like a treasure hunt for weird home features. The two examples above are just a sampling of the great Zillow finds you can enjoy courtesy of Zillow Gone Wild. There’s a Washington D.C. home with a [built-in theater set piece]( in the living room, plus a home that’s [all smoke and mirrors]( (minus the smoke). IN THE LOOP 10 Common Abbreviations People Use Online It would have been reasonable to assume that abbreviations and acronyms would become less popular once "multi-tap" texting went by the wayside. (I definitely don't miss pressing the 7 button four times just to type one S in a text!) But it turns out that typing a message on a smartphone screen can still be a time-consuming process, and that's why abbreviations are still alive and well today in texts and on social media. Some are widely known (like LOL or OMG) or easy to understand in context, but others can be harder to interpret. Here's a list of some common abbreviations used online today, along with a brief description of their meaning: 1. IMO/IMHO: In my (humble) opinion 2. TFW: That feeling when 3. MFW/MRW: My face/reaction when 4. IDC: I don’t care 5. POV: Point of view 6. TBH: To be honest 7. SMH: Shaking my head 8. FWIW: For what it’s worth 9. IIRC: If I remember correctly 10. ICYMI: In case you missed it Do these or any other acronyms trip you up when you’re reading texts or comments online? Reply to this email and tell me which ones give you the most grief. A celebration and remembrance of the [Exodus]( of the Israelites from Egypt, Passover customs include abstaining from eating or owning [chametz](, the ritual feast of [Passover Seder](, and consuming unleavened matzo flatbread and other foods deemed kosher for Passover. On This Day: In 1912, the British passenger liner [RMS Titanic sank]( in the North Atlantic after striking an iceberg shortly before midnight. The ship was built to stay afloat even if two of its 16 compartments were flooded, but the collision had torn open five, thus dooming the ship. By 2:20 am, the entire ship had sunk, claiming the lives of 1,500 of the 2,200 or so passengers and crew members. 🤔 Wordle: [Solve today's 5-letter word](. What did you think of today's email?
