Not to worry—my approach is always closer to "you deserve better" than "you're too old for that." (Scroll down to see the correct answer.) A. Tax records over 3 years old B. Jeans that are too small C. Wire clothes hangers D. Flimsy plastic patio chairs WEEKEND CLEANING CHALLENGE Finish Up Spring Cleaning In The Kitchen [A photo of a backsplash and cabinets in a kitchen.]( We made a lot of progress last weekend in the kitchen—this weekend we’ll finish it off. As I mentioned last weekend, we’ll finish up all of our kitchen cleaning tasks today. Here’s what we’ll be working on over the next couple of days: 1. Fridge and freezer. If you completed the “clean your fridge” challenge back in February, you may be able to skip right to your freezer. (If you didn’t, the [tips in this post]( will help.) Once your fridge is in good shape, go through your freezer—clean up any messes and throw out anything covered in ice or freezer burn. Finish off by using [this method]( to vacuum your fridge’s coils. 2. Pantry. If you completed the “organize your pantry” challenge earlier this month, you can skip this step! If not, check out the [March 4 newsletter]( for a full step-by-step guide to cleaning out and reorganizing your pantry. 3. Cabinets. I like to clear out my cabinets and wipe down the shelves with a damp rag before replacing everything neatly. If your cabinet doors are looking pretty grimy, [this 2-ingredient cleaner]( can help you get rid of any greasy gunk. 4. Floors. And last but not least, sweep and mop your floors. After sweeping or vacuuming to pick up dirt and debris, mop your floors with your tools of choice. If your floors are greasy, try this [grease-cutting mopping solution](. If they’re lightly dirty, a [steam mop]( works wonders. (Wood floors? [Follow these steps]( instead.) That does it for the kitchen! Stay tuned for more spring cleaning tasks here every Friday through the end of April. I’ll be tackling these tasks right alongside you and we’ll get it done together. SAVE MONEY 3 Things You’re Wasting Your Money On [A photo of Jillee taking money out of her wallet.]( Plenty of your expenditures are worth the money, but these ones? Not so much. 1. Late Fees. If you don’t make the minimum payment on your credit card on time, you can be charged a late fee of up to $30 [as of last year](. If it’s the second late fee you’ve been charged in 6 months, that fee can go up to $40, so it pays to be proactive about those payments. 2. Appetizers. I love apps as much as the next gal, but I also know that most restaurant entrées are too big for me to eat in one sitting. Unless you’re really, really hungry, you’re likely to fill up on the appetizer and barely put a dent in your entrée, so skip the appetizer altogether and keep that money in your pocket instead. 3. Dry Cleaning. Unless the label specifically says they’re “dry clean only,” you can probably get away with washing items like dress pants, button-up shirts, and dresses in your washing machine. Use cold water on a delicate cycle, and skip the dryer and dry them flat. You’ll not only save money, but gasoline and time too! JILLEE'S PICK Peel-And-Stick Tile Backsplash [A photo of the peel-and-stick tile backsplash in Jillee's kitchen.]( I was skeptical at first about [peel-and-stick tile](, but I liked the idea of putting in a backsplash without spending a fortune, so I was willing to give it a try. The “installation” was fast and easy and I loved how it turned out! If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to update your kitchen, a peel-and-stick tile backsplash is a great option. Here’s a rundown of how the installation process works: The first thing you need to do is clean the stretch of wall where you’ll be putting up the tiles, either with a Magic Eraser or a sponge and some soapy water. The tiles stick best to clean surfaces, so cleaning your wall thoroughly is an important step in the process. Once the walls are clean and free of grease, you can use a level and a pencil to draw guide lines on your wall if you want to make sure your tiles end up as straight as possible. (I just “eyeballed” the position of my tiles as I applied them, but to each their own!) There really isn’t much to the process of putting up the tiles—just peel the liner off the back and press them firmly to the wall. When you come to a point where you need to trim the tiles to fit, you can cut them to the size you need with a craft knife or utility knife. Then stand back and admire your handiwork! Today, residents of Sweden, Norway, and Denmark celebrate Waffle Day, a delicious holiday with fascinating origins. On March 25, many Christians celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation commemorating the archangel Gabriel’s visit to the Virgin Mary. The Swedes call it VÃ¥rfrudagen (Our Lady's Day), which sounds enough like VÃ¥ffeldagen (Waffle Day) that it became popular to eat waffles on March 25. (Great, now I want waffles too!) Return To Middle Earth: It’s also Tolkien Reading Day, which has been organized by the Tolkien Society since 2003 to celebrate the works of J.R.R. Tolkien by returning to favorite passages. In the Lord of the Rings series, March 25 was the day the Ring of Power was destroyed and Sauron’s stronghold Barad-dûr fell, making it the perfect day for fans to honor the mastermind behind the saga. 🤔 Wordle: [Solve today's 5-letter word](. ANSWER A. Generally speaking, most people should keep tax records for the past 5 years, which means you shouldn't get rid of your 2017 and 2018 records just yet! As for tax records from 2016 and earlier, be sure to shred them before getting rid of them to protect your personal information. (Keep in mind that some curbside recycling operations don’t accept shredded paper. If yours doesn’t, take your documents to the UPS Store or Office Depot and take advantage of their shredding services—they’ll even recycle the shreds for you!)
