PLUS: 9 of the most useful containers to save and repurpose PLUS: 9 of the most useful containers to save and repurpose March 6, 2022 [View Online]( Good morning! Having been involved in my fair share of these spats over the years, I know how easily differing opinions about dishwasher practices can turn into full-on arguments. But this week’s download could help settle some of these matters once and for all, so I hope you make good use of it! Jillee THIS WEEK’S DIGITAL DOWNLOAD 11 Dishwasher Do's And Don'ts You Need To Know [A photo of Jillee's printable dishwasher guide being held over an open dishwasher.]( Can’t seem to agree on dishwasher-related matters? This guide will help settle the score. Based on the number of anecdotes I’ve heard from OGT readers about this, it seems like one particular chore tends to be a source of contention for people. It's easy to assume that chore would be scrubbing the toilet or something else no one wants to do, but a surprising amount of chore drama is dishwasher-related. Apparently, many couples have differing opinions on just about everything to do with using a dishwasher, whether it’s how to load it, how to unload it, whether it's “full” or not, when to start the wash cycle, and so on. I've even gotten a couple of specific requests from readers to make a printable guide to loading a dishwasher correctly to help settle such disputes. And while I would love to do that, the problem is that not all dishwashers are the same, so you can’t really make a universally useful guide for loading them up with dishes. So instead, I put together a guide that could be universally useful—11 “do’s and don’ts” for dishwashers. If you’ve ever wondered whether you need to pre-rinse your grimiest dishes, whether it's okay to put plastic in the bottom rack, or if there's a better way to load your silverware, this guide has all those answers and more. Follow the link below to download my “Do’s And Don’ts Of Dishwashers” guide as a printable PDF or a mobile-friendly image—just look for the yellow download boxes! Parmesan Cheese Shakers. While the container itself is nice, it’s really the lid that earns these a place on my list. Parmesan cheese shakers are perfect for storing anything you shake or sprinkle, like cornstarch, powdered sugar, baking soda, etc. The larger opening on the lid is great for dispensing snacks too. 2. Baby Wipes Boxes. Baby wipes boxes are ideal for storing [reusable fabric softener sheets](. It keeps them tidy and helps seal in the scent so you don’t have to refresh them as often. The one drawback I’ve found is that the labels can be impossible to remove—something to keep in mind if you normally remove them. 3. Large Yogurt Containers. Whether they were originally filled with yogurt, sour cream, or cottage cheese, these plastic tubs are great to repurpose. I use them for gifting [homemade ice cream]( and other treats to friends and family, but I usually [remove the ink print]( first to make them look a bit nicer. 4. Ice Cream Pails. These plastic buckets are useful for storing collections of items like cookie cutters or small toys, and you can fill them with soapy water for cleaning jobs around the house. Back when my kids were much younger and much more vomit-prone, I kept one in my car as an emergency vomit receptacle, which proved very useful. 5. Gum And Mint Containers. There are so many great ways to use gum and mint containers. Gum containers are usually a bit bigger, so they can be used to store craft supplies, snacks, or even loose change. Smaller mint containers are handy for corralling paper clips or notoriously easy-to-lose bobby pins.
