February 28, 2022 [View Online]( TOGETHER WITH [LMNT]( Good morning! We all know that nothing lasts forever, including a lot of the things we have and use around the house. But some are less obvious than others, including the 11 items Iâve highlighted in Todayâs Good Thing. Find out what they are and when to replace them below. Also in todayâs newsletter, Iâve got a new Monday Motivation that I hope will help anyone feeling overwhelmed by the scale of the task ahead of them. Shifting your focus may not seem like much of a change, but it really can make all the difference. Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING Are You Replacing These 11 Household Items Regularly? [Photos of pillows, medicine, a toilet brush, and cooking spices.]( These common household items need to be replaced every so often, but many people overlook them. Unlike a towel full of holes or a vase of wilted flowers, which are very obviously in need of replacing or at least addressing, there are plenty of other things around the house that need to be replaced on a regular basis, but that are much more likely to escape our notice. One potential explanation for our habit of neglecting to replace these things is that we arenât even sure how often we should replace them. And if thatâs the case, itâs up to us to figure out how often we need to replace things in order to avoid potentially unpleasant consequences. So to help make things easier, Iâve put together a list of 11 household items that need to be replaced regularly, including recommendations for how frequently to do so. Youâll find out how often to replace the spices in your kitchen, the makeup in your bathroom, and other items around the house. Iâve also included some extra tips that will help you keep all that information straight, so follow the link below to learn everything you need to know about replacing these 11 household items. Let It Cool Completely. Allow your pizza stone to cool all the way down to room temperature before attempting to clean it. This is less about the threat of burning yourself as it is about the threat of the hot stone cracking when cool water is applied to it, and no one wants that!
2. Gently Scrape Off Stuck-On Bits. Use a plastic spatula or bench scraper to remove any solid residues and stuck-on food bits. Avoid using anything made of metal to do this, as it could easily scratch up your stone.
3. Wipe The Stone. Wipe down the stone with a clean, dampened cloth to remove any lingering residue and grime. If it looks relatively clean at this point, you can let the stone dry and itâll be ready to use again. If it still has some crusty gunk on it, proceed to the next step.
4. Scrub With Baking Soda Paste. Spot treat any remaining crusty gunk with a simple paste of baking soda and water. Just put about a tablespoon of baking soda into a small bowl, add enough water to make a paste, then scoop some up with a cloth and apply it to the gunk in circular motions until the area is clean.
5. Wipe The Stone (Again). One your stone is free of gunk, wipe it down with your dampened cloth again and set it somewhere to dry. Let it dry out completely before storing it away again. TOGETHER WITH LMNT Can Salt Be Good For Your Heart? Studies Say Yes I grew up hearing time and time again that limiting your sodium intake was key for good cardiovascular health, but that advice may be outdated. Based on a large scale, 16-year study, [researchers at Boston University]( found that those who ate a high sodium diet had high blood pressure. That's not exactly surprising, but what is surprising is they also found high blood pressure in those who ate a very low sodium diet, while those in the middle had the lowest blood pressure. The takeaway? Consuming too much salt is bad for your heart, but so is consuming too little. So how do we make sure weâre getting enough sodium without oversalting our food or adding extra calories to our plates? Iâve found that the easiest way is to add a packet of [LMNT drink mix]( to a glass of water. Unlike other electrolyte drinks on the market, LMNT is sugar-free, gluten-free, and actually tastes good. STAY SAFE OUT THERE The Doâs And Donâts Of QR Codes [A photo of someone scanning a QR code.]( Scammers want to use QR codes to their advantage, but there are ways to keep yourself safe. While quick response (QR) codes were something of a novelty a few years ago, they were rapidly adopted by just about everyone once the pandemic began. QR codes remain useful for distributing information in a contactless fashion, but as with any up-and-coming technology, opportunistic scammers want to exploit them. But this shouldnât make you distrustful of all QR codes, most of which are harmless. Instead, use common sense and trust your instincts to identify potentially sketchy codes that are better left unscanned. Here are a few tips that can help: • Beware of scanning QR code stickers that have been applied over signs or fliers.
• If a scanned QR code prompts you to download an app, download the app directly from your phoneâs app store.
• Donât download a separate app to scan QR codesâmost phones provide a built-in code scanner in their camera app.
• If you receive an email about a failed payment and are told to use a QR code to complete it, contact the company through their website or customer service number to verify before doing so. These common sense measures can help you avoid scanning sketchy or malicious QR codes, so be sure to use them. And feel free to make your friends and family aware of them as well! JILLEE'S PICK Itâs Annaâs World, Until It Isnât [A promo image for the Netflix series ]( Creator of shows like Greyâs Anatomy and Scandal, Shonda Rhimes has established herself as the queen of binge-able TV dramas. Her recent Netflix miniseries [Inventing Anna]( took all of one week to reach the #1 spot on Netflixâs most-watched list after it was released earlier this month. Inventing Anna was inspired by journalist Jessica Pressler's article â[How Anna Delvey Tricked New Yorkâs Party People](,â which appeared in New York magazine in 2018. The article detailed how Anna Sorokin, posing as the fictional German heiress Anna Delvey, spent years conning New York City's elite, enjoying all the perks of being rich and famous while lying to get out of paying for it. The plot of the Netflix series is semi-fictionalized to entice viewers into binge-watching all 10 hours in one sitting, and it's pretty effective at doing so. Inventing Anna has all the hallmarks of the best Shonda Rhimes television experiencesâdrama, great fashion, morally questionable decisions, and complex characters. It's thought-provoking and entertaining, and if youâre anything like me, youâll find it hard to resist going âdown the rabbit holeâ researching the real story once you've finish. MONDAY MOTIVATION Focus On The Next Step When you have a big task in front of you, whether itâs getting sober, raising a child, or getting through a busy period at work, it's necessary to look all the way ahead to the finish line to understand where you're going and how you're going to get there. But once you have a strategy or plan, looking at the big picture can quickly become unhelpful, or even detrimental. Obsessing over the enormity of the task in front of you can lead to self-doubt, and once doubt starts to creep in, it can be very hard to shake. Iâve personally gone through this cycle dozens of times, and even though Iâve managed to get through difficult times before, I still struggle with self-doubt and can get overwhelmed by the big picture. But I try to remind myself that success is rarely achieved in one big leapâit happens gradually, step by step. So whenever you find worrying whether the task ahead of you is too big to handle, that's your cue to narrow your focus down to what you can achieve today. Forget the big picture and look at the small oneâthe one where you get one step closer to your goal. When you focus on taking the next step, you can avoid wasting time and energy on worrying and doubting yourself, neither of which are doing anything to help you. Instead, focus on doing the only thing that is going to get you to the finish lineâtaking that next step. A FEW MORE THINGS...
