February 26, 2022 [View Online]( TOGETHER WITH [1440]( Good morning! There’s no better time than the weekend to put on a fresh coat of nail polish, and the easy project I have for you in Today’s Good Thing can help you remove the old color in a flash. Find out how to make a simple and effective nail polish removing jar below. Also in today’s newsletter, I’ve got some great tips for using baby wipes in a new Unusual Uses. Baby wipes may be the most useful to moms and their babies, but they’re plenty useful for the rest of us too! Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING This Is By Far The Best Way To Remove Nail Polish [Photos of someone using a DIY nail polish remover jar to remove their nail polish.]( You only need 3 simple items to make it quicker and easier than ever to remove your nail polish. When it comes to taking off nail polish, those “dip and twist” jars are wildly popular for a reason. Not only do they make the process fast and easy, but they reduce mess and waste too. You can go out and buy one right now, but why would you when it’s so easy to make your own at home? You likely already have everything you need to make one on hand, because you only need a small lidded jar, a sponge, and some nail polish remover to do it. Ready to find out how easy this project is? Here’s how to make it: Take a standard cellulose sponge and cut it in half lengthwise, then wrap the two pieces around each other so that they form a swirl. Insert the tightly rolled sponges into a 4-ounce mason jar—they should fit snugly. Pour as much nail polish remover into the jar as you need to saturate the sponges, then screw the lid on for storage. How To Use It: To remove your nail polish, insert your finger into the center of the rolled sponges and let it “soak” for a few moments, then twist the jar around your finger to remove the loosened polish. No muss, no fuss! Considering that I’ve written posts like “[15 Surprising Foods You Can Make In Your Waffle Maker](” on my blog, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I often used my waffle maker to cook things that aren’t actually waffles. One food that I’ve found that cooks up really well in a waffle maker is cornbread. Since chili and cornbread are a favorite cold weather meal in our household, I like to mix it up occasionally by making chili and cornbread waffles instead. It’s not only a nice change of pace from the usual format, but no one ever complains about it (which is a nice change of pace too!) Here’s how to make it: Start by preparing the batter for your favorite cornbread. Sometimes I’ll make it from scratch, but I’m not above using those little Jiffy cornbread mix boxes from the store either—they’re inexpensive and super convenient! Spoon some of the cornbread batter onto a greased, preheated waffle iron, then shut the lid and cook the cornbread until it’s cooked through and golden brown. Continue cooking cornbread waffles until you have at least one per person. Top your cornbread waffles with a big scoop of your favorite chili. (Canned chili works just fine, but feel free to make your favorite homemade chili instead.) Top the chili with grated cheese, sour cream, sliced green onions, or whatever you like to top your chili with, then dig in. UNUSUAL USES 3 Handy Uses For Baby Wipes (Aside From Wiping Babies) [Photos of various uses for baby wipes.]( You don’t have to have a baby to make good use of a package of baby wipes. 1. Quick Pet Cleanup. Keep a package of baby wipes on hand to wipe mud off your dog’s paws after a trip to the dog park, or to clean your cat’s face after they’ve eaten a messy meal. Baby wipes can also come in handy for removing loose fur from your dog or cat’s coat. 2. Make DIY Hemorrhoid Wipes. You can turn baby wipes into hemorrhoid wipes at home for a fraction of the cost of buying them at the store. Just get a box or package of baby wipes with aloe, then pour about 1/2 cup of witch hazel over the wipes. The combination of aloe and witch hazel is extremely soothing (even more so if you chill the wipes before using them!) 3. Clean A Chalkboard. Use a baby wipe to clean chalk and dusty residue off of chalkboards. They also work for removing chalk marks from surfaces that were painted with chalkboard paint. JILLEE'S PICK Unexpected Soundtracks [A GIF of an Instagram Reel from @savannahkaydesigns doing a craft project.]( I got a good laugh from [this Instagram Reel]( from Savannahkay ([@savannahkaydesigns]() recently, and I figured plenty of you could relate! The first thing that came to mind after seeing this Reel was our photographer Kaitlyn, who loves true crime and murder mystery podcasts and probably does this sort of thing all the time. But I think most people can relate to listening to "unexpected soundtracks," which I define as any audio that doesn't match the activity you're doing. For instance, if I have my headphones in while I'm folding laundry, I'm probably listening to a devastatingly sad audiobook about World War II, or something equally depressing. Do you have any “unexpected soundtracks” you listen to that would seem strange to someone else? Maybe you listen to rock ‘n’ roll while you meditate, or listen to fantasy stories while filling out spreadsheets? Reply to this email and tell me about them. REMEMBER WHEN Paper Bag Book Covers [A photo of textbooks with their covers wrapped in paper bags.]( Back in my school days, we had to put covers on the textbooks we were given to help keep them in good enough condition to last a certain number of years. (And when I reflect on hauling my textbooks between my backpack, my locker, and home, it's not hard to see why protective covers were a good idea!) I wanted to buy the cool book covers at the store, but my mom was never willing to waste good money on something like that. So I did what every other kid who didn’t have cool book covers did—cut up a paper grocery bag and folded it around the cover. As long as you folded them right and taped them securely, it worked just fine! My paper bag book covers may not have been as "cool" as I would have liked, but at least I was able to doodle on them whenever I liked. Are book covers still a thing for kids in grade school, because I know some kids get school-issued laptops now—I can’t imagine the kind of cover you’d need for one of those! A FEW MORE THINGS... Seize The Day: It’s Carpe Diem Day, a day to honor and embody the spirit of carpe diem, a Latin phrase often translated as “seize the day” (though it’s probably closer to “pick the day,” as you'd pick a ripe fruit). Either way, carpe diem is all about making the most of the present moment, so keep your eye out for opportunities you can take advantage of today.
