PLUS: The laundry product that can cause skin irritation, a quick fix for a bra emergency, and more. February 9, 2022 [View Online]( Good morning! When you’re down with a cold or COVID-19, or your allergies are acting up, congestion in your nose and chest can make it hard to breathe and even harder to sleep. In Today’s Good Thing, I'll show you how to make a simple concoction that can help ease congestion fast. Also in today’s newsletter, we’re looking beyond the basics of charcuterie boards in Jillee’s Pick. I’ll tell you about a woman who is making an art out of big food spreads (and even bigger boards). Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING Kick Congestion To The Curb With This Easy Vapor Rub [Photos of Jillee using her DIY vapor rub.]( Feeling congested? This homemade vapor rub helps ease congestion fast with all-natural ingredients. I enjoy the challenge of coming up with a homemade version of a store-bought product that works equally as well, especially if I can do it using ingredients I already have on hand. That’s how I came up with this homemade vapor rub, featuring coconut oil and 3 sinus-clearing essential oils to open up congested airways. Here’s how to make it: In your microwave or bowl set atop a pan of simmering water, gently melt 1/4 cup of virgin coconut oil until it is completely liquified. Then add 10 drops of [peppermint oil](, 10 drops of [eucalyptus oil](, and 5 drops of [lemon oil]( to the melted coconut oil and stir well to combine. Pour the oil mixture into a small jar and allow it to re-solidify. (If you live in a warm area or your kitchen tends to run hot, you may want to put the jar in the fridge to ensure the coconut oil returns to its semi-solid state.) Here’s how to use it: Scoop some of the mixture out of the jar and apply it to your chest, neck, and back, or anywhere you would use the store-bought stuff. The aroma of the oils will help open airways, loosen coughs, and provide a pleasant cooling sensation to overheated skin. Be sure to keep this mixture away from broken skin, easily irritated skin, and your face, otherwise the pleasant tingling of peppermint oil may quickly become a lot less pleasant! For women of a certain (ahem) cup size, underwire bras are a necessary evil. They may be more comfortable than they used to, but bra engineers have yet to find a permanent solution to the most painful of problems—the underwire escaping from the fabric and poking the wearer in the ribs or sternum. So until they do come up with a way to prevent this common underwire issue, at least there's a simple stopgap measure that can keep the wire contained (and prevent any stabbings) until the defective bra can be replaced. To fix it, all you need is a piece of moleskin, like the kind you’d use to protect or prevent blisters. Moleskin is both a sturdy material with a strong adhesive, allowing it to keep the wire in its proper position for longer than most other materials could. I suggest keeping moleskin at home and in your purse so you’re always prepared for a quick fix. Check out the full tutorial for this underwire bra fix below. When you have sensitive skin, switching to non-irritating soaps and lotion is a no-brainer, but it's just as important to consider how your laundry products are affecting your skin. It never really occurred to me that I ought to evaluate how my laundry product choices were affecting my own sensitive skin until just a few years ago. While detergent is worth considering if you have skin sensitivities, I would argue that dryer sheets and fabric softener should be your primary concern. Because they coat fabric in a layer of softening and static-eliminating chemicals, those chemicals are in constant contact with your skin and potentially causing irritation. Instead of relying on chemical softeners, you can soften clothes manually with a set of wool dryer balls. ([Learn more about the benefits of dryer balls here](.) Making this simple switch led to a noticeable reduction in skin irritation for me, and it could make a big difference for you too! JILLEE'S PICK Beyond The Charcuterie Board [Photos of Sandy Coughlin's big board of baked sweet potatoes.]( I’ve mentioned that I love a good charcuterie board in the newsletter a couple of times now, so I thought I’d share a new frontier in the concept that has been popular on Instagram and Pinterest lately: enormous “meal boards.” The trend originated with Sandy Coughlin, founder of [Reluctant Entertainer](. She started sharing big, artfully arranged charcuterie boards a few years ago on her blog and social media channels, but soon expanded into other types of food spreads. [Check out her collection of “Big Board recipes” here](. She even teamed up with woodworking company J.K. Adams to launch a line of [Big Boards]( in various shapes and sizes. You can see Sandy holding the massive 26” Big Board in many of her popular food spread photos, usually laden with enough food to feed a small army. Not only do I see the visual appeal of meals arranged on a beautiful wooden board, but I also see the appeal in serving a “everyone helps themselves” family-style meal. It’s a great way to bring family or friends together and turn a normal weeknight dinner into a communal feast! WHAT IN THE WORLD WIDE WEB Nothing Says “I Love You” Like… Crocs? [A photo of the Sweethearts x Crocs limited-edition clog.]( Crocs’s foam clogs have been controversial since they hit the market in the early 2000s, but the 2020s seem to have ushered in a Crocs renaissance. They've found a new popularity among high school students, and the brands has benefitted from high-profile collaborations with celebrities like Justin Bieber. One of Crocs recent brand collaborations was with the undisputed king of Valentine’s Day candy: Sweethearts. The star of the [Sweethearts x Crocs collection]( is a foam clog with a fuzzy red lining and top, adorned with fuzzy decals shaped like Sweethearts' famous conversation hearts. Just for a chance of snagging the limited-edition Sweethearts x Crocs clogs, you would have had to enter a random drawing. Then, if you happened to be one of the lucky prospective customers chosen in the drawing, you would have still had to fork over $85(!!!) to get your hands on them. But those who didn’t manage to snag a pair of the perfect clogs for Valentine's Day can still dress up their current Crocs with a bit of romantic flair. The collaboration with Sweethearts also included two sets of Jibbitz conversation heart charms—the [glittery “Elevated” 5-pack](, and a non-glittery [Sweethearts 5-pack](. A FEW MORE THINGS...
