What you need to know about jury duty schemes, 4 ways to prepare for holiday guests, and more. November 22, 2021 [View Online]( Good morning! It’s a rather exciting day for me, as I finally get to share a huge announcement about a project I’ve been working on for the last several months. All the details about this new venture are in Today’s Good Thing, and I hope you’re every bit as excited about it as I am! The message in today’s Monday Motivation is deeply personal, and I share it in hopes that it might reach those who could use a ray of hope. It’s about why Thanksgiving is always bittersweet for me—bitter for the memories of 14 years ago, and sweet for the reminder of all I have to be grateful for. Jillee DAYS UNTIL 🦃 Thanksgiving: 3 🕎 Hanukkah: 6 🎄Christmas: 33 🎊 New Years: 40 TODAY'S GOOD THING The Simple Skincare Routine Every Woman Over 50 Needs [Photos of Jillee looking at and using skincare products.]( Mature women deserve better skincare, and this is it. In my early 40s, I decided it was time to start taking better care of my skin, and my wishlist was fairly simple—or so I thought. I was looking for products that were easy to use, effective, and reasonably affordable. But over the next few years, all I found were complicated systems, highly expensive options, and ineffective products. Since I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I decided a few months ago that I would have to take matters into my own hands. And today, I couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to the fruits of that labor: [Timeless by Jillee]( a skincare system by and for mature women. I’ve been using all 5 products in the system for several months now, and it’s been nice to finally feel like I’ve found what I started searching for years ago. I'm no longer confused and overwhelmed by skincare, because I have clarity and confidence that I'm using a great set of simple and effective products. All of the Timeless by Jillee skincare products are on sale during my Black Friday Sale, which, as you might have read in yesterday’s newsletter, is going on now! There’s so much more I have to tell you about these products, like what they are, how I use them, how they can benefit your skin and make your life easier, and so on. You'll find all of that and more at the link below (and more details on the sale too!) Provide Extra Linens. In addition to outfitting your guest room with clean bedding and towels, consider supplying them with a second set of clean linens too. If your guests are staying longer than one night, they may appreciate having a second set of sheets or towels at their disposal without needing to ask. 2. Leave Empty Space. It’s easy to go overboard on furniture and decor in your guest room. Resist the temptation to fill all the empty space, because your guests may need it to store their luggage and other belongings. When it comes to your guest room, focus on your guests’ needs first and decorative elements second. 3. Don’t Forget A Lamp. Don’t forget to provide a small lamp near the bed somewhere. That lamp could come in handy for those who like to read before bed, and it’ll help your guests avoid running into things in the dark if they get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. 4. Leave A Note. Write down any details your guests might need to know during their stay and leave it somewhere in the guest room. You might include your WiFi password, codes to digital door locks, how to get the water temperature just right in the shower, and any other details a guest in your home might find useful. STAY SAFE OUT THERE Jury Duty Schemes And How To Spot Them [Photos of jury duty summons and the jury bench in a courtroom.]( Failing to appear for jury duty has consequences, but don’t let that scare you into falling for a con. Along with responsibilities like voting and paying taxes, it’s our duty as citizens to serve on juries when called upon. You can face real consequences for failing to report for jury duty, and some crooks use that to their advantage to scare their victims into paying up. Posing as court officials or law enforcement, these crooks call or email their victims claiming that they’ve failed to report for jury duty, and that they must immediately pay a fine or risk arrest. According to federal officials in Georgia, victims have paid as much as $13,000 to crooks who were running jury duty schemes. In reality, if you were summoned for jury duty and failed to appear, you would most likely be ordered to appear before the judge to explain your situation. No legitimate court official or law enforcement officer will ever demand payment or personal information from you over the phone. Of course you don’t want to face legal consequences, but don’t let scare tactics override your logic and reason. If you get a call or email saying you failed to report for jury duty, remember that a real summons would have come by mail. If you didn’t get one, you don’t have anything to worry about! JILLEE'S PICK Sally, The Baking Guru I Never Knew I Needed [Photos of snickerdoodles and banana bread.]( When I have a hankering for a specific homemade treat or baked good but don’t have a tried-and-true recipe of my own, my search often leads me to a recipe from [Sally’s Baking Addiction](. I’ve tried several of her recipes at this point, each of which has been a hit. Behind Sally’s Baking Addiction is blogger, author, and photographer Sally McKenney, who obviously knows her stuff! Last week I made her [Soft & Thick Snickerdoodles]( and I made her [Favorite Banana Bread]( just a couple of days ago, and both were simple to put together and absolutely delicious. Beyond being a trusted source for baking recipes, I also appreciate all of the baking tips and tricks Sally sprinkles throughout her posts. I’ve found that, especially for those of us who aren’t necessarily the most confident bakers, the tips help to ensure that whatever you’re baking turns out perfectly. [Check out Sally’s Baking Addiction ➜]( MONDAY MOTIVATION Giving Thanks For My Worst Thanksgiving I count the day before and Thanksgiving Day in 2007 among the worst days of my life, not least because they could have been my last. I was battling alcohol addiction and too proud to admit it to myself or anyone else, though any doubt would soon be long gone. To make a long story short, I spent the evening before Thanksgiving with my phone turned off, drinking heavily in my parked car miles away from home. I spent the next day—Thanksgiving Day—drinking more and driving aimlessly around town, unwilling to face my family after having been effectively missing for over 24 hours. It’s difficult to think about those days even now, to remember how wounded and furious and terrified I felt, and how my family must have felt the same. But I can't help but feel gratitude as well, as the incident was a catalyst of change that I desperately needed. The day after Thanksgiving, some rational part of me seemed to finally recognize that I needed help, and less than 2 weeks later, I reluctantly agreed to enter the residential treatment program that would change my life. As you give thanks this week and throughout the holidays, don’t limit yourself to being grateful for your blessings. Recognize the hardships that taught you the lessons you needed to learn, as well as the strength within you that kept you going through it all. Most of all, give thanks for hope, and for the grace that allows us to begin again. A FEW MORE THINGS... Sagittarius Season: So long, Scorpio season—it’s time for Sagittarius to shine. As the archer of the zodiac, this fire sign is characterized as adventurous and optimistic. From now until December 21, that upbeat energy will supposedly promote a hopeful outlook and renewed mental strength. (I don’t know about you, but both of those sound pretty good right about now!) On This Day: In 1963, [President John F. Kennedy was assassinated]( by Lee Harvey Oswald while riding on a presidential motorcade in Dallas, Texas. President Kennedy is one of 4 US presidents who were killed while in office, following Abraham Lincoln in 1865, James A. Garfield in 1881, and William McKinley in 1901.
