When I first came across this recipe, it seemed so simple that I wasn’t entirely sure it would be any good. But to my delight, it was not only as easy as could be, but the filling was smooth, creamy, and not overly sweet. If you’re looking for a beginner-friendly pumpkin pie that doesn't sacrifice flavor, this is it! Here’s how to make it: To a mixing bowl, add 2 eggs, 16 ounces of canned pumpkin purée, 14 ounces of sweetened condensed milk, and 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice. Use a whisk or hand mixer to mix until well combined. Fit an unbaked pie crust into a 9” pie plate, trim the edges, and shape as desired. Place the pie plate on a baking sheet, then carefully pour the pumpkin mixture into the prepared crust. Bake the pie at 425°F for 15 minutes, then lower the temperature to 350°F and continue baking until the filling is set, about 35-40 more minutes. Once the pie is done, allow it to cool completely before slicing and serving—preferably under a mountain of fresh whipped cream. UNUSUAL USES 3 Surprisingly Practical Uses For Cinnamon [Photos of various uses for cinnamon.]( Whether in ground or stick form, cinnamon can be just as useful outside the kitchen. 1. Make Place Settings. You can make festive place cards for a nice dinner in seconds using cinnamon sticks. Just make a small name card for each person who will be attending, then slide the bottom of each card into the crevice along the center of a cinnamon stick. It’s easy, looks great, and smells even better. 2. Repel Moths. You can use a combination of cinnamon and other spices to help repel moths so they don't harm your clothes. Fill a small sachet with a cinnamon stick, 1 tablespoon of black peppercorns, and 1 tablespoon of whole cloves. Tie it off and place the sachet in your closet or dresser drawers. 3. Erase Scuffs And Scratches. You can use ground cinnamon to erase scuff marks and scratches on your wooden furniture. Just rub a pinch of ground cinnamon on the scuffed area and watch it disappear! (Okay, it won’t actually disappear, but the cinnamon will disguise the damage by matching the color of the wood.) JILLEE'S PICK My Top 4 Thanksgiving TV Episodes And Specials [Still photos from ]( Friends, Season 5 Episode 8: “The One With All the Thanksgivings” (1998) The friends spend the holiday at Monica’s telling stories about their worst Thanksgivings. Monica’s story about accidentally cutting off Chandler’s toe leads to Chandler’s accidental revelation that he’s in love with her, which makes this episode a classic Friends mixture of funny and heartfelt. Where To Stream It: HBO Max Cheers, Season 5 Episode 9: “Thanksgiving Orphans” (1986) Dave and I rarely missed an episode of Cheers in the ‘80s, including this one. The gang have nowhere to go for Thanksgiving, so Carla agrees to host a potluck. While waiting on Norm’s very slow turkey, a hilarious argument over which direction to turn the TV devolves into a memorable food fight. Where To Stream It: Hulu or Paramount+ Happy Days, Season 6 Episode 12: “The First Thanksgiving” (1978) Mrs. C cooks while the men watch football, until she marches in, unplugs the TV, and chides them for forgetting the meaning of the holiday. Marion tells them the story of the first Thanksgiving while the rest of the characters act it out (including Fonzie on a wooden “motorcycle” with two lovely pilgrim lasses). Where To Stream It: I could only find Season 2 streaming on Paramount+. Bummer! A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973) Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Woodstock, and Linus prepare a “Friendsgiving” feast in Charlie Brown’s backyard of toast, popcorn, pretzel sticks, and jelly beans. In one of my favorite scenes, Linus leads the group in prayer and tells the story of the first Thanksgiving. It's a sentimental favorite of mine! Where To Stream It: Apple TV+ REMEMBER WHEN The “Sweet Little Game” Of Candy Land [A photo of a Candy Land game box from the 1960s.]( Candy Land is the first game I can remember playing as a kid, which is fitting, considering that early versions of the game advertised it as “Your Child’s First Game” right on the box. I think the colorful trail that winds through the Candy Land's delicious landmarks must have inspired my lifelong love of colorful games with simple rules! The game of Candy Land was first published by Milton Bradley in 1949. It was created the year before by a retired teacher named Eleanor Abbott, who wanted to make a game that could be played by the children in the polio ward at the San Diego hospital where she was also being treated for polio. Not only was Candy Land an immediate hit for Milton Bradley, but it remains one of the most popular children's games today. Around 1 million copies are still sold every year, indicating that Candy Land is still the first game many kids learn to play. I love that playing Candy Land is a childhood experience that spans generations! While my adult kids have moved on to increasingly complex board games in recent years (one of their current favorites, Scythe, involves so many boards, cards, and pieces that it barely fits on our sizable dining table!), I’d still prefer a trip around the Gumdrop Mountains and through the Molasses Swamp any day of the week! A FEW MORE THINGS... Run, Run Rudolph: With global shipping and delivery disruptions showing no signs of letting up, you don't want to wait any longer to get your holiday cards ordered. Make the process fast and easy with Minted, plus [get 20% off holiday cards]( on recycled paper with the code HOLIDAYJOY.* On This Day: In 1820, the whaling ship [Essex]( was attacked and sunk by an 85-foot sperm whale thousands of miles off the coast of South America. Though the 20-man crew survived the attack, only 8 remained when they were rescued after months of dehydration, exposure, and even cannibalism. The attack provided much of the inspiration for Herman Melville’s classic 1851 novel Moby Dick. A Festive Parade: This evening, Grand Marshals Mickey and Minnie Mouse will lead America’s largest evening holiday parade at the 30th Annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival in Chicago.
