Why you should bring your cooler to Thanksgiving, a swap that makes cleaning the tub easier, and more. November 18, 2021 [View Online]( TOGETHER WITH [Woven Earth]( Good morning! One of the many facets of aging that I’ve found to be both a blessing and a curse is that my hair doesn’t get oily as quickly as it used to. But less oil means drier hair, so fighting frizz has become a top priority. If you’re dreaming of softer, smoother hair too, the 3 leave-in conditioners featured in Today’s Good Thing can help. Also in today’s newsletter, I’m sharing another portion of my list of favorite romantic comedies in today’s Jillee’s Pick. This portion of the list features iconic rom-coms of the late ‘90s, including an oddly timeless AOL romance and an abundance of Julia Roberts. Jillee DAYS UNTIL 🦃 Thanksgiving: 7 🕎 Hanukkah: 10 🎄Christmas: 37 🎊 New Years: 44 TODAY'S GOOD THING The 3 Best Leave-In Conditioners For Aging Hair [Photos of 3 different leave-in conditioners.]( Keep aging hair soft and healthy with any of these moisturizing leave-in conditioners, including one you can make at home. Option #1: [DIY Leave-In Conditioner Spray]( Add 2 tablespoons of hair conditioner, 6 tablespoons of water, 1 teaspoon of rosehip oil, and 5 drops of essential oils (geranium oil works well here) to a small spray bottle. Replace the spray top, then give the bottle a good shake to mix. To use the spray, spritz it onto damp or dry hair, then brush hair thoroughly to work it in. [See the full recipe here ➜]( Option #2: [Giovanni Direct Leave-In Weightless Moisture Conditioner]( Not only is this leave-in conditioner relatively affordable and widely available, but it’s also sulfate-free, making it a good option for curly, color-treated, or damaged hair. If you’re looking for a store-bought spray that’s simple, moisturizing, and lightweight enough that it won’t weigh down your hair, our production manager Brittany says this one fits the bill perfectly. Option #3: [It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin]( This spray-in option is more expensive than the Giovanni conditioner, but for me personally, the additional benefits make it worth the extra cost. Not only does this “Miracle Leave-In” deeply condition dry hair, but it also contains keratin to help strengthen strands and protect hair against the heat from styling tools. It’s one of my very favorite hair products! Bring Your Cooler To Thanksgiving Dinner [A photo of a bowl of food in a cooler.]( Whether you’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner or not, you might want to have your cooler handy. While coolers—or ice chests, or whatever you call your insulated bin that keeps things cold— see the most action during the warmer months of the year, they can also be surprisingly useful to have on hand at Thanksgiving. In fact, you can put them to good use both before and after any big holiday meal. Before dinner, you can use your cooler to keep food warm, which can be especially useful if you’re going to someone else’s place for dinner and want to keep your casserole warm on the ride over. If you’re hosting dinner at your place, you can use your cooler to help keep your various dishes warm in the lead up to dinnertime. After the meal, empty your cooler and fill it with warm, soapy water for additional dish-soaking space. If your holiday meals are like ours, there are sure to be more dishes that need soaking than your sink can actually hold. But with a cooler or two at the ready, you can soak all your dishes after dinner—even the roasting pan! SWAP THAT 🔄 FOR THIS For Pain-Free Scrubbing, Ditch Your Scrub Brush [Photos of tubs being scrubbed with a brush and with a broom.]( When it comes to cleaning your bathtub or shower, the best scrubber isn’t a scrubber at all. A couple of years ago, I was doing the arduous work of scrubbing my bathtub—a task I had procrastinated until I absolutely could not ignore it any longer. As I was scrubbing and thinking about how much my knees and back ached, I had the sudden realization that there was a simple way to make the task a lot easier. Since all of the things I hated about cleaning my tub were related to having to kneel, bend, and reach to scrub it clean, I could avoid all of those painful activities by swapping my scrub brush for a tool with a long handle. It seems obvious now, but the thought had never occurred to me before then! While there are long-handled scrubbing tools you can buy, I found that a regular old house broom did the job just fine. After I realized how well it worked (and how much less pain I was in after finishing), I went out and bought a broom specifically for scrubbing my tub and the tallest parts of our shower. Give this swap a try for yourself and see what you think. I think you’ll agree that using a broom makes cleaning tubs and showers a lot easier and less painful than that old scrub brush. JILLEE'S PICK My Favorite Romantic Comedies Of The (Late) ‘90s [Still photos from ]( It's time for another installment of my "favorite romantic comedies" list. After sharing the third chunk of my list in the [October 2]( newsletter, I'm excited to share the fourth piece with you today—especially since it covers a time period some consider to be one of, if not the, golden era of rom-coms. Last time I covered the early '90s, so here are my favorites from the latter half of the ‘90s: • 1996's [One Fine Day]( starring Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney. This film isn’t as well-known as the others on this list, but it should be! It’s very funny and a feel-good love story, with off-the-charts chemistry between George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer that makes you want to fall in love all over again. • 1997's [My Best Friend's Wedding]( starring Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney. Whenever I think of this movie, the first thing that comes to mind is when everyone sings “I Say A Little Prayer” at the restaurant. There are so many funny scenes, plus a great love triangle of sorts that keeps you guessing till the very end. • 1998's [You’ve Got Mail]( starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. This just might be my favorite feel-good movie of all time. The characters are so delightful, and Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are just perfect together. Amazing actors and a story set in the early days of the internet—what more could you ask for? • 1999's [Notting Hill]( starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. Despite a cliché setup—charming regular guy meets a glamorous star and they fall in love—this movie is more than the sum of its parts. Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant are another match made in rom-com heaven, and the supporting cast is lovable too. • 1999's [Runaway Bride]( starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Another Julia Roberts classic, plus a reunion of one of the best rom-com duos ever. This story explores the uncertainties of attraction and true love in a sweet and funny way, and the supporting cast is great too (I always love Joan Cusack!) I'll share more of my favorites in future newsletters. Are there any other rom-coms you loved from this era? Hit reply and let me know! YOUR ONE GOOD THING Use A Bread Bag To Oil Potatoes Georgia from New Jersey has a great tip for mess-free potato prep: "Scrub baking potatoes and pat them dry. Pop them into a plastic bag (I use an empty bread bag) and drizzle a small amount of cooking oil over the potatoes. Then massage the potatoes gently through the bag, then slip them onto a baking sheet. No oil on your hands and easy cleanup." I’m a big believer in using my (clean) hands in the kitchen—they are our “most important tools,” after all. But I don’t necessarily love having a thick layer of cooking oil on my hands after oiling potatoes, mainly because I typically need to wash them twice to get all the oil off. And not only does this tip eliminate the inconvenience of trying to clean up oil-covered hands, but it also makes use of an item you would otherwise throw away. So thank you very much for sharing this super smart two-for-one tip with us, Georgia! Have a great tip or trick of your own? [Share YOUR “one good thing” here]( for a chance to see it featured in a future newsletter! A FEW MORE THINGS... Experience The Difference: Tired of being tired because you're not sleeping well? The entirety of the eclipse will be visible from North America, Alaska, and Japan, while parts of it will be visible from Australia, New Zealand, and western Europe. [Learn more about this eclipse here](. Show Your Support: In what may be the silliest “holiday” I’ve featured in this newsletter yet, it’s “Married to a Scorpio” Support Day. In astrology, Scorpios are described as being deeply loyal and passionate, but with secretive and mistrustful tendencies. With that in mind, I can see why spouses of Scorpios could use a day of support! (If you’re married to a Scorpio, hit reply and share your thoughts on this “Support Day!”) On This Day: In 1963, the first touch-tone telephone was made available for purchase in the area around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The [Western Electric model 1500]( only had 10 buttons for digits 0-9. The star (*) and pound (#) buttons were introduced with the model 2500, which came out 5 years later in 1968. *Sponsored by Woven Earth. What did you think of today's email?
