5 useful photos to keep on your smartphone, the easiest way to salvage salty soups, and more. November 9, 2021 [View Online]( TOGETHER WITH [Wildgrain]( Good morning! Who among us hasnât looked away from the stove for a moment too long and accidentally scorched whatever they were cooking? Luckily, Iâve tried nearly every method under the sun to erase those stubborn burnt messes, and Iâm sharing the top 3 most effective ones in Todayâs Good Thing. Also in todayâs newsletter, thereâs plenty of book talk. Iâm sharing my experience with J.R.R. Tolkienâs famous fantasy trilogy in Jilleeâs Pick, plus Iâll tell you all about a website that can help you find your next favorite book in a new What In The World Wide Web. Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING 3 Easy Ways To Remove Burnt Messes From Cookware [A ]( Made a blackened mess of a pot or pan? Thereâs more than one way to restore it to its former glory. Method #1: Bar Keepers Friend & Scrub Daddy Bar Keepers Friend is one of the best options out there for cleaning stubborn messes off of cookware, including stainless steel, anodized aluminum, enameled cast iron, and copper pots and pans. ([It works well on Pyrex too]( Sprinkle some of the powder onto a wet Scrub Daddy, then scrub the stained or scorched area in a circular motion. The mess should start breaking up shortly, but if it doesnât, let it sit for about a minute before trying again. Once your pot or pan is clean, wash it with warm, soapy water and rinse well. Method #2: Dishwasher Detergent Tab Dishwasher detergent tabsâthe ones made of compacted detergent powder, not the dissolvable liquid packsâact like an all-in-one cleaning agent and scrubber. The gritty powder helps scour through messes while the detergent breaks down grease and food residues. To use it, just add some hot water to the stained pot or pan, dip the detergent tab into the water, and scrub. With a bit of elbow grease and determination, your cookware will be gleaming in no time. Method #3: Baking Soda & Hydrogen Peroxide And last, but certainly not least, is one of my [all-time favorite cleaning duos]( baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. If you always have these on hand like I do, this is a great (not to mention affordable) option to keep in your back pocket. To use them together to clean pots or pans, mix them together to create a paste, then smear it over the mess and allow it to sit for about 20 minutes before scrubbing. Soon enough, your pot or pan should be good as new. (Keep in mind that the longer you can let this cleaner combo sit, the less scrubbing youâll typically need to do.) 2. Signs With Important Information. Take pictures of signs with phone numbers or other important information on them for yourself or your loved ones. Snap photos of âFor Sale,â âFor Rent,â or âHelp Wantedâ signs if you or someone you know is looking for a new place to live or a new job.

COOKING The Easy Way To Salvage Salty Soups [A photo of a peeled potato going into a pot of soup.]( Went overboard with the salt while cooking a soup or sauce? This simple tip can help you salvage it. Getting your seasonings just right when making soups and sauces can be tricky, because the longer it cooks, the more concentrated the seasonings you add become. And unless you start with that in mind, a soup or sauce that starts out tasting great can end up tasting overly salty by the time itâs finished cooking. But an overly salty soup or sauce isnât necessarily a lost causeâyou can salvage it by adding a peeled potato to it (along with a splash of water if the mixture is getting too thick). Continue cooking it, and the potato will absorb some of the salt content. Once your soup or sauce is saved, and you can discard the potatoâno harm done! JILLEE'S PICK Good Versus Evil In The Lord Of The Rings [The cover image of ]( My first exposure to [The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien]( was back when the movies were coming out in the early 2000s. My two youngest wanted to go see the latest one, and by the end of it we were all hooked. It was the beginning of a family obsession with the Lord of the Rings movies that is still going strong to this day! But despite our enthusiasm for the movies, I had never actually read the books until now. I decided to listen to the audiobooks narrated by Rob Inglis, and once again found myself spellbound by the beautiful world of Middle-Earth and its unforgettable characters. Itâs a timeless story about good versus evil and a true literary masterpiece. For me, one of the most moving aspects of the Lord of the Rings story is the ever-present hope that people from different backgrounds can unite as one and stand together in the face of evil. I hold the same hope for our world, and Iâm glad I can always return to this story when I need reminding of it. One quick tip: if youâre considering reading (or listening to) the Lord of the Rings for the first time, I suggest starting with The Hobbit first. Not only does it provide context for certain events in the trilogy, but it's a good "warmup read" for those who, like me, don't tend to read a lot of detail-laden high fantasy. Tolkien on Amazon â]( WHAT IN THE WORLD WIDE WEB Discover Your Next Favorite Book [An image of a laptop screen displaying the ]( No matter what genre(s) you prefer, every reader knows what itâs like to finish a book and think, âI want more of this!â But unless the book you just finished is the first in a lengthy seriesâthe readerâs equivalent of winning the lotteryâitâs not always clear exactly how to find books that are similar to the one you just finished. So I was excited to learn about [WhatShouldIReadNext.com]( a website designed to help provide readers with an answer to that very question. Just type the name of a book or author you like into the search bar, and it will provide titles of books you might based on similarities of genre, subject matter, time period, or other factors. To test it out, I used The Secret Garden (which as I mentioned [on October 12]( is one of my all-time favorites) as my search term. It returned several great suggestions, including some I already know I love like Anne of Green Gables, Little House on the Prairie, and Heidiâa good sign that it works as advertised! The overwhelmed guards yielded later that evening and allowed those gathered to cross freely.
