Brilliant ways to organize with tension rods, a delicious variation on chicken enchiladas, and more. September 18, 2021 [View Online]( Good morning! Have you ever bought something that was objectively boring, but in your mind was the best thing ever? That’s exactly how I felt when I bought the bowls featured in Today’s Good Thing. I don't have any ties to Cuisinart—they just happen to make the set of mixing bowls that ruined all other mixing bowls for me. And speaking of ruin, today’s Remember When highlights a facial scrub that almost certainly brought ruin to the skin of hordes of teens throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s. Looking back, we might as well have been exfoliating with coarse-grit sandpaper. Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING These Unassuming Mixing Bowls Are Secretly The Best [Photos of stainless steel mixing bowls from Cuisinart.]( How do I love thee, set of stainless steel mixing bowls from Cuisinart? Let me count the ways. Like sipping your favorite hot drink on a rainy day or hearing your favorite song on the radio, it’s the little things in life that give us these moments of joy and brighten our everyday routines. And as strange as it seems, few things have brightened my daily routine as much as [my set of stainless steel mixing bowls]( from Cuisinart. Here are three reasons why I like these mixing bowls so much: 1. Three Useful Sizes. The set includes a 1.5-quart bowl, a 3-quart bowl, and 5-quart bowl, and each one is useful for different types of tasks. Together they cover just about any task you'd need a mixing bowl for. (I have an extra-large 12-quart bowl I use on the rare occasion I need to make a huge batch of something.) 2. Sturdy Lids. Each bowl in the set comes with its own sturdy plastic lid, which is great for storing leftovers, chilling doughs, marinating meats, etc. It may not seem like a big deal to pop on a lid instead of wrapping the bowl in plastic or foil, but for me, using a lid is much less frustrating than struggling with plastic wrap. 3. The Bowls Have Tall Sides. Shallow mixing bowls drive me crazy because food likes to jump out over the sides as I mix. But that's not an issue with these Cuisinart bowls—they have extra-tall sides that help keep the contents contained, plus the taller profile means they take up less room on fridge shelves [2 More Reasons To Like These Bowls]( [Get Yours on Amazon ➜]( [Get Yours on Amazon ➜]( Related • [3 Addictive Christmas Treats You'll Want To Make Right Now]( • [This Unusual Cake Is The Perfect Combination Of Easy And Impressive]( ⚡️QUICK TIPS⚡️ • From a hearty southwest salsa to a tangy buffalo chicken dip, you can’t go wrong with these [10 delicious dip recipes](. [Read more ➜]( COOKING Creamy Honey Lime Chicken Enchiladas [A photo of a plate of chicken enchiladas.]( The honey and lime marinade gives these creamy green enchiladas a tangy flavor that’s hard to resist. A word of warning: there’s nothing particularly healthy about the recipe I’m about to share with you. But what these enchiladas lack in healthiness, they more than make up for in flavorful, cheesy deliciousness. They’re a popular option for birthday dinners around here, but they’re easy enough to make any night of the week. Here’s how to make them: Cook and shred 1 pound of chicken—breasts and thighs both work well. Then in a mixing bowl, whisk together 6 tablespoons of honey, 5 tablespoons of fresh lime juice, 1 tablespoon of chili powder, and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder. Add the shredded chicken to the bowl, stir to coat, then cover and marinate in your fridge for at least one hour. Meanwhile, gather what you'll need to assemble your enchiladas: a greased 9x13" baking dish, about 12 flour tortillas OR about 15 corn tortillas, and 1 pound of grated Monterey Jack cheese. When you're ready to start assembling, pour 1/2 cup of green enchilada sauce from a 16-ounce jar/can evenly over the bottom of the baking dish. Set aside about 1 cup of the shredded cheese, then distribute the remaining cheese and all the chicken into your corn or flour tortillas. Roll up each tortilla and arrange them in the baking dish. Pour the remaining green enchilada sauce into the remaining marinade, then add 1 cup of heavy cream and whisk to combine. Pour the creamy enchilada sauce mixture over the top of the enchiladas, then sprinkle the reserved cheese on top. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes until the top is browned and the sauce is bubbling. Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving with your preferred fixings (which for me includes a small mountain of chopped cilantro). Add Storage To Your Bathroom. Tension rods can help add additional storage to a small bathroom. Use a short one to hang up headbands, brushes, necklaces, hair ribbons, and other grooming items, or use a long one in your shower to hang up loofahs, washcloths, soaps, hair products, and more. 2. Fit More Under Your Sink. Put up an inexpensive tension rod near the top of the cupboard under your sink. It’s the perfect place to hang cleaning products, spray bottles, and scrub brushes, and it will free up valuable storage space for other items. (If you have heavier spray bottles to hang, be sure to choose a sturdy tension rod that can hold the weight.) 3. Divide Up Large Drawers. Large and deep drawers can hold a lot of stuff, but without any way to divide that space, they can quickly turn into a chaotic mess. Install a tension rod in large or deep drawers to break up the space, which will make it easier to keep the contents organized and keep chaos to a minimum. JILLEE'S PICK Expanding My Vocabulary One Word At A Time [A photo of the easyoffice easel clipboard.]( As you are well aware by now based on how many books I’ve written about here, I do a lot of reading. And for some reason, I get strangely excited when I come across a word I don’t know while reading. (I think it's just reassuring that even at my "mature" age, there are still new things out there for me to learn. It keeps life interesting!) I always look up unfamiliar words for my own edification, but I recently decided to take it a step further. I wanted to set up a little area where I could display the new words I'd found and their definitions to help me retain them better, and this [easyoffice easel clipboard]( I found on Amazon ended up being perfect for the job. So now I have my little vocabulary word easel set up in our main living area, and it really is helping me to retain the meanings of those new words I come across. I’m not sure my family appreciates it as much as I do (or understands why I’m doing it), but I really enjoy it! REMEMBER WHEN The Ghosts Of Skincare Past [Photos of Noxzema and Aapri.]( My earliest memory relating to skincare products is my Mom and her tub of Noxzema. It was ever present in her medicine cabinet, and she used it to remove her makeup and wash her face. I think just about every woman used that cream during the '60s and '70s. I don't remember paying much attention to my own skin until I started getting acne as a teen. I was more or less clueless on how to handle it so there was a lot of trial and error in order to find products that worked. I think the first one I ever bought (or had my mom buy for me) was Aapri, that awful "exfoliating" apricot pit scrub that felt like you were taking a sander to your face. Here’s an actual excerpt from a 1985 Aapri ad: “If you want to keep your skin looking young, stop babying it. It’s time you got tough. With Aapri facial scrub.” Yikes! I’m sure today’s dermatologists would be appalled. Skincare has certainly come a long way since those days!
