Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING 6 Simple Tips For Organizing Your Living Room [Photos of various living room organization tips.]( If your living room could use some TLC, use these tips to clear out the clutter and make your space more functional. 1. Put Discs In A CD Wallet. If you have a sizable collection of DVDs, CDs, or video games, first go through it all and get rid of anything you donât want keep. Once youâve decided what you're keeping, take all the discs out of their cases and put them in a CD wallet instead. They'll take up a fraction of the space that way.
2. Use A Battery Organizer. Thereâs always something in the living room that needs a new set of batteries, so keep your spares organized in a dedicated battery organizer. There are all sorts of battery organizers to choose from depending on your needs, from sturdy cases with foam inserts to simple plastic storage boxes.
3. Add A Coffee Table Tray. Adding a decorative tray to your coffee table is an easy way to make it look more organized and put together. Use it to corral magazines, books, remotes, coasters, and other items you typically keep out on your coffee table.
4. Use A Baking Sheet For Hidden Storage. If you tend to work on crafts or projects in your living room, arrange your project supplies on a baking sheet. When youâre done with your project for the day, just slide it under your couch to keep them close by and accessible without cluttering up your coffee table.
5. Make Your Own Decorative Boxes. No need to spend an arm and a leg on decorative storage boxes for your living roomâyou can make your own using cardboard boxes you already have on hand. Learn how to turn them into [painted burlap storage boxes]( or [woven felt storage bins](.
6. Get Rid Of Old Magazines. Got a big stack of magazines gathering dust in your living room? Go through them all and set aside the magazines you donât want or need anymore, then either recycle the rest or store them elsewhere if you plan to repurpose them.

Facebook is a great tool for staying in touch with friends and [following yours truly]( but not everyone who uses it has pure intentions. If a stranger sends you a friend request, it could be someone trying to get [malware]( on your computer, or it could be a âcatfishâ (AKA a person using a fake identity online) trying to get money from you. While not every stranger who wants to befriend you on Facebook is up to something nefarious, the risks are real enough that it's a good idea to proceed with caution. So before you hit that "Accept" button on any new friend requests, do these two things: 1. Verify Their Identity. In general, it's a good idea to only accept friend requests from people you know in real life.
2. Look At Their Facebook Activity. Pull up the person's Facebook profile and look at their photos and recent posts. If there isn't much to see, that suggests the account is either brand new or isn't used regularly, both of which are red flags. If you're not sure you know the person or if their Facebook profile looks suspicious, it's better to be safe than sorry. Ask for more information that can help you verify their identity, or just hit âDeclineâ and carry on. WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT? Keep Cords Contained In A Glasses Case [A photo of cords in a glasses case.]( There are plenty of ways to keep cords tidy, but this oneâs particularly handy for glasses wearers. Carrying a charging cord for your phone with you is a great idea in theory, if only for the knowledge that you could charge your phone if you needed to. But even if you only have one or two cords in your bag, they can easily turn into a tangled, nightmarish mess. The simple solution? Keep your cords contained and easy to find by [tucking them into a spare glasses case](. It's easy to toss into a purse, backpack, suitcase, or gym bag, and the cords will stay neatly wound instead of becoming hopelessly tangled. JILLEE'S PICK This Eyeliner Is Just Right For Sensitive Skin [A photo of MAC Eye Kohl eyeliner pencils.]( Between the way my skin has thinned in recent years and the sensitivity Iâve always dealt with, my skin can be as volatile as a toddler desperately needing a nap. Trying a new makeup or skincare product could go fine, or it could go extremely not fine, and thereâs no telling which one itâs going to be until itâs too late to change course. Luckily, I have at least managed to find an eyeliner that my skin and I can agree on: [MAC Eye Kohl](. Itâs not so hard that it tugs on my skin and not so soft that I canât draw a clean lineâitâs in that âjust rightâ middle ground. It doesnât irritate my skin either, so it really checks all my boxes. ASK JILLEE How To Open Jars With Ease [A photo of the Evriholder Easi-Twist Jar Opener being used to open a jar.]( Victoria from Richmond, British Columbia asked: "What is the best jar opener? I don't have much strength in my hands and arms in my senior years." My answer: If it makes you feel any better Victoria, I donât think I ever had much strength in my hands and arms to begin with! But thatâs actually a good thing in this case, because it means Iâm quite familiar with this particular problem. ([I even wrote a blog post about it here]( My personal favorite jar opening tool is the [Evriholder Easi-Twist Jar Opener]( and not just because you can get it for under $10. You just slip it around the lid of the jar you want to open, figure out which notch fits the lid best, and twist. Itâs a low-tech solution, but it works like a charm! Garden Update: Now that autumn is on the horizon, I'm thinking about whatâs on my gardening to-do list in the coming weeks, like keeping tabs on the tops of the garlic and onions so I know when theyâre ready to harvest. I'll also be cutting back my perennials to make room for new growth in the spring, and [composting leaves]( as we rake them up. I remember renting my fair share of DVDs from Netflix back in the mid-2000s, including the entirety of [Alias]( which I rented and watched one disc at a time.
