PLUS: The stain removal mistake that makes things worse instead of better. August 11, 2021 [View Online]( Good morning! I like to be efficient in the kitchen, and I have a few tried-and-true seasoning blends I turn to when I want to add flavor in a hurry. In Today’s Good Thing, I’m sharing some of my favorite blends and blends that come highly recommended by OGT readers. There’s a new Poll of the Week today too, inspired by a conversation the OGT Team had about how our spouses load the dishwasher. (I guess when you’re part of the OGT Team, forming strong opinions about household chores sort of comes with the territory.) Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING 6 Seasoning Blends That Make Everything Taste Better [Photos of seasoning chicken.]( Turn up the flavor in your food with these versatile seasoning blends beloved by OGT readers. 1. [Jillee’s House Chicken Seasoning](. My personal go-to seasoning blend is a combination of kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, onion powder, garlic, powder, and dried parsley, and it rarely leads me astray. I normally apply them separately not just to chicken, but also potatoes, vegetables, and more. 2. [Montreal Steak Seasoning](. This bold seasoning includes garlic, paprika, and coarsely ground pepper, among other ingredients. Add it to steak, burgers, and pork to pump up the flavor, or use it to season Brussels sprouts. 3. [Cavender’s Greek Seasoning](. This seasoning blend has roots that go all the way back to Ancient Greece. Containing salt, pepper, garlic, oregano, and other spices, its devoted fans apply it liberally to salads, chicken, and more. 4. [Mrs. Dash Original Seasoning Blend](. The original salt-free Mrs. Dash blend is a consistently popular option. It contains an impressive 14 herbs and spices including onion, parsley, basil, and orange peel. 5. [Trader Joe’s “Everything But The Bagel” Blend](. This seasoning blend mimics the flavor of “everything” bagels, but it’s not just for breakfast foods—fans use it on toast, garlic bread, eggs, potatoes, and chicken too. 6. [Old Bay Seasoning](. Ubiquitous at crab and seafood boils along the east coast since 1939, the Old Bay recipe is a closely guarded secret. In addition to seafood, it’s great on popcorn, chicken, biscuits, and vegetables. When you're wiping up a spill on your kitchen counter, trying to start at the center of the spill can easily spread it out across the counter even further. The same effect can occur with stains on clothing too, which is why cleaning them up from the middle can cause problems. Instead, approach stains from the outside edges and blot your way towards the center of it as you go. This simple tip can help you avoid spreading a stain around and accidentally making it worse. BEAUTY 3 Helpful Clothings Hacks For Hot Weather [Photos of hot weather clothing hacks.]( When it’s hot out, keep your cool and look good doing it with these brilliant clothing hacks. 1. Prevent Underarm Sweat Stains. No one wants sweat stains around their underarms, especially when dressed up for an event. It might sound odd, but you can prevent them by attaching panty liners to the armpit area inside your sleeves. The adhesive will keep the liners in place and they’ll absorb any sweat and keep your outfit dry. 2. Avoid Inner Thigh Chafing. To prevent your inner thighs from chafing when wearing dresses, cut the legs off an old pair of tights so they end about halfway down your thighs and wear them under your dress. The light material will help keep you cool, and it’s a great way to repurpose tights with runs or holes in them. 3. Choose Light Colors And Fabrics. Dark colored fabrics absorb more light and get hotter than lighter fabrics. Stay cool by wearing light colored clothing, and avoid wearing tight clothing and heavy fabrics during hot weather too. Loose clothing will let your skin breathe and help keep you cooler. JILLEE'S PICK This Sun Hat Is Ready For Adventure [Columbia sun hat.]( When it comes to protecting your skin from the sun and keeping the sun out of your eyes, it's hard to beat a hat with a nice, wide brim. While searching for a sun hat to bring on vacation with us to Hawaii, my daughter-in-law Kaitlyn decided to try the [Columbia Women's Global Adventure Packable Hat](. She wanted a hat that wouldn't lose its shape, and according to Kaitlyn it fared extremely well going in and out of her luggage. She also mentioned that the hat was light enough that she wore it hiking without feeling overheated, and that the hat's strap helped keep it on even when it got breezy. I bought a wide-brim hat for the trip too, but I didn't think nearly as highly of the one I got as Kaitlyn did of hers. (Totally unrelated—how many floppy sun hats can one person can reasonably own? Asking for a friend.) [See the Columbia Women's Global Adventure Packable Hat on Amazon](. POLL OF THE WEEK Dishwasher Discourse Q: In general, how do you feel about the way your significant other loads the dishwasher? (Click one of the options below to submit your response.) 1. [They do it all wrong]( 2. [They do a fine job]( 3. [I don’t really care how they do it]( 4. [They don’t load the dishwasher]( Results from last week's poll: Among OGT readers, the split between podcast listeners and non-listeners is about as close to 50/50 as it gets! Over 1,700 of you weighed in on the question “Do you listen to podcasts? If so, what type of podcast do you listen to most often?” Here's how you responded: • 50.7% said “I don't listen to podcasts” • 12.3% said “I listen to true crime podcasts” • 10.7% said “I listen to self help podcasts” • 8.1% said “I listen to religious podcasts” • 7.2% said “I listen to pop culture/entertainment podcasts” • 7.2% said “I listen to news podcasts” • 3.7% said “I listen to business/work-related podcasts” A FEW MORE THINGS... What I’m Watching: The Perseids meteor shower will peak over the next few days, so I’ll be out in the yard watching the skies for meteors as long as the weather cooperates. While apparently they can appear anywhere in the sky, the Perseids tend to radiate from the constellation [Perseus]( (which makes sense!) Attention all super-savers and penny-pinchers: it’s National Bargain Hunting Week. Each year, the second week in August is a weeklong celebration of the art of finding a great deal, whether you prefer digging for yard sale treasures or browsing the clearance racks for hidden gems. *This is sponsored content.
