And for our Weekend Cleaning Challenge, weâll be beautifying our bathrooms. If it sounds intimidating, never fear, because weâll be using my most efficient and effective cleaning techniques to make it as quick and painless as possible. Are you in? Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING 4 Costly Storage Mistakes With Easy Fixes [Photos of various storage mistakes.]( These four storage mistakes can shorten the lifespan of your stuff and cost you more money over time. 1. Storing Towels In Your Bathroom. If you store your spare towels in your bathroom, the humid conditions can keep them damp around the clock and eventually lead to mildew problems. Instead, store your stock of clean towels in a dry location outside of the bathroom, like your linen closet, and make sure to hang towels up after drying off so they can dry out between uses.
2. Storing Beauty Products On Your Counter. Most skincare products and cosmetics should be stored in a cool, dark, and dry location, so you can see why storing them on a warm and brightly lit counter in your bathroom can lead to their untimely demise. Instead, keep your personal care and beauty products tucked away in a drawer or cabinet when youâre not actively using them.
3. Storing Pantry Items In Their Original Packaging. The boxes and bags that pantry items come in donât do much to keep them fresh, and they allow easy entry points for insects and pests that may be looking for a feast. Instead, transfer pantry items to airtight food storage containers when you get home from the store to keep them both fresh and protected from pests.
4. Storing Nonstick Pans In A Stack. The finish on your nonstick pans is pretty fragile, so stacking them on top of each other can quickly lead to scratches on that fragile finish. Instead, insert a paper plate, paper towel, or sheet of tissue paper between each pan, because even a thin barrier will help protect the finish from scratches.

This weekend, I thought we'd focus on the bathroom, because no one's bathroom is perfectly clean all the time, right? (If your bathroom is perfectly clean all the time, please share your secret with me.) I recommend starting with [this efficient 15-minute method]( to clean your bathroomâs major fixtures and surfaces, including mirrors, the toilet, the sink, etc. You'll get the lion's share of the bathroom cleaned in very little time, which is great because "very little time" is the exact amount I like to spend cleaning bathrooms. Next, shift your focus to the tub or shower. I swear by [my two-ingredient shower cleaner]( do scores of OGT readersâbecause it cuts through hard water, soap scum, and other grime like nothing else. Let it sit for around 30 minutes to give it time to work its magic, and be sure to open a window or turn on the fan, because the vinegar smell can be pretty potent. Then, if you want to go that extra mile and earn some bonus points, consider tackling some of [these 9 bathroom items that don't get cleaned frequently enough](. When was the last time you cleaned your drain stopper or hairbrush? If the answer grosses you out, clean them up and then consider this challenge conquered! SAVE MONEY Pack A Lunch On The Weekends [Photos of Jillee packing and eating a lunch.]( Bringing lunch from home is a smart way to save money regardless of what day it is. You already know that brown-bagging during the work week is a smart way to save money. You use up leftovers which eliminates food waste and is often healthier, and you avoid a trip through the drive-thru or a costly lunch out. But none of that stops being true over the weekend! As much as we like to think of our weekends as being reserved for rest and relaxation, we often spend them out and about running errands or doing chauffeur duty. All that running around works up an appetite, and you can save quite a bit of money by bringing a lunch along with you rather than stopping at the nearest drive-thru when you inevitably get hungry. You can even make your lunch-from-home more fun by bringing along a blanket and stopping at a park to enjoy your meal. It'll feel like a little R&R in the middle of a hectic day, and you can use the money youâll save to treat yourself on your next date night or put it towards a savings goal. JILLEE'S PICK Freeze Food In Portions With Ease [Freezing portions of leftover soup in PrepWorks Freezer Pods.]( A lot of people use ice cube trays to freeze certain foods because it's easier to grab a few cubes at a time as needed instead of having to thaw out one big frozen block. But thereâs a line of products that has taken the same concept and made it even better: [PrepWorks Freezer Pods](. Freezer Pods are similar to ice cube trays, but the cavities in each tray have a capacity of either 2 tablespoons, 1/2 cup, 1 cup, or 2 cups, depending on which type you get. The capacity is written in raised lettering at the bottom of each cavity, so the capacity gets frozen into the actual food. Youâll never have to guess how much is contained in each cubeâhow clever is that? Once your food has frozen solid, you can store the cubes in malleable ziplock freezer bags. Arrange the bags in a container in your freezer to keep them organized, slide them into any available nook or cranny. And since Freezer Pods are dishwasher safe, theyâre easy to clean up and use again and again. [See PrepWorks Freezer Pods on Amazon](. QUIZ CORNER Which Is The Dirtiest? On This Day: In 1960, Chubby Checker performed his cover of âThe Twistâ on the The Dick Clark Show, launching a worldwide dance craze. Itâs Root Beer Float Day! I havenât had a root beer float in ages, so this feels like a sign from the universe that I better go ahead and treat myself to one. I like to keep it classic with root beer and vanilla ice cream, but there are plenty of [variations of ice cream floats]( to choose from if you want to make things interesting. ANSWER A. As surprising as it sounds, the floor is often the dirtiest and least sanitary place in a bathroom. Most of us just don't clean it as frequently as other bathroom surfaces, despite the fact that itâs exposed to the same icky conditions as everything else. It also has the misfortune of getting showered with bacteria every time the toilet gets flushed. But on the bright side, you can keep your floor cleaner just by closing the lid before you flush.
