An easy breakfast that combines pancakes and bacon, clean the air in your home, and more. July 15, 2021 [View Online]( Good morning! Between treating stains, wash cycle settings, and the ever-present threat of shrinking your favorite shirt, laundry isnât always as easy as weâd like. But never fear, because the hacks in Todayâs Good Thing are here to help. And in Your One Good Thing, newsletter reader Ceil has a great idea for getting more use out of something you would normally throw out. Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING 5 Brilliant Hacks That Make Laundry Easier [Top left: Clothes on hangers. Top right: A bottle of Jillee's Ultimate Stain Remover Spray on top of a full laundry basket. Bottom left: Dry erase marker on a washer that says ]( Incorporate any of these simple ideas into your laundry routine to save time and make life easier. 1. Invest In A Drying Rack. To avoid over-drying your clothes, dry them for about 20-30 minutes in your dryer, then hang them on a drying rack to dry the rest of the way. If youâre short on space to set up a rack, consider spaces you can forgo for just a few hours, like your shower stall, bathtub, or even your garage.
2. Treat Stains Right Away. When it comes to treating stains on clothes, time is of the essence. To get to stains faster, keep your preferred stain remover wherever you usually get undressed at the end of the day. Then you can treat stains while youâre still thinking about it rather than hoping youâll remember to do it later.
3. Treat Stains On The Cheap. Speaking of stain removal, there are plenty of inexpensive ways to remove clothing stains. Dampen a bar of [Fels Naptha]( laundry soap and rub it onto the stain, or pour boiling water over it. For grease and oil stains, use cornstarch, baby powder, or baking soda to absorb excess oil.
4. Get More Organized. Avoid future laundry mishaps by keeping a dry erase marker near your washing machine. Use it to write notes directly on your washer about whatâs in the current wash load or what shouldnât go into the dryer afterward. The notes will wipe away easily and you can start fresh with the next load.
5. Dry Things Faster. Adding a dry towel to your dryer can help speed up the drying process by absorbing some of the excess moisture. Another option to speed things up is to do another spin cycle after your wash cycle ends, which will help remove even more water from your clothes before they go into the dryer.

Right: A finished bacon pancake on a griddle.]( Bacon meets pancakes in this all-in-one breakfast thatâs destined to become a new family favorite. When it comes to sweet and salty flavor combinations, I'll take them wherever I can get them. That includes at the breakfast table, which is why these delicious bacon pancakes have been making so many appearances at ours recently. Here's how to make your own bacon pancakes: 1. Cook several slices of bacon on your griddle and leave most of the grease behind..
2. Set a strip of the cooked bacon on the still-hot griddle, then pour pancake batter over the top of the bacon.
3. As soon as bubbles start to surface on the top of your pancake, flip it over.
4. Let the pancake cook for another minute or so until the middle is cooked through and both sides are a nice golden brown.
5. Top with your preferred pancake toppings and serve. SWAP THAT ð FOR THIS Donât Just Freshen The Air, Clean It [Left: Jillee looking shocked while reading the label on a can of air freshener. Right: A bottle of Defend Essential Oil Blend.]( The best way to deal with stale or stuffy air in your home is to clean it, not cover it up. Many commercial air freshener sprays contain chemicals linked to all sorts of health problems, including hormone-disrupting phthalates. Instead, I like to freshen the air with natural essential oils. Many oils have antifungal and antibacterial properties that help clean the air instead of simply making it smell better. When cleaning the air is my goal, I reach for [Defend Essential Oil Blend]( which features clove, oregano, lemon, cinnamon, lime, eucalyptus, rosemary, peppermint, and spearmint essential oils. Many of these oils have cleansing effects while others can even help soothe respiratory issues. Here are three ways to use Defend to clean the air: 1. Diffuse It At Home. You can find affordable ultrasonic diffusers online and at most stores that sell home goods these days, or you could [make your own reed diffuser](.
2. Diffuse It In Your Car. Use a clothespin to clip a Defend-soaked cotton ball to your air vent in your car to clean the air as it circulates through your A/C. Or try [one like this]( that plugs into your car's power outlet.
3. Freshen While You Vacuum. The next time you vacuum the house, add Defend to a few cotton balls and put them in your vacuumâs dust cup. As you vacuum your carpets, the air moving through will carry the fresh scent of the oils around your house. JILLEE'S PICK Fantastic Fudge And Where To Find It [A photo of Kay's headstone bearing her fudge recipe.]( For decades I have been searching for "the one." No, not that oneâI mean "the one" perfect homemade fudge recipe. This is one of the rare instances where my mom's recipe, while it is quite good, isn't quite what Iâm looking for in my ideal fudge. My search began after I received homemade fudge as a Christmas gift one year from a colleague. He told me his wife made it, but my excitement turned to despair when I couldn't convince her to share her magical recipe with me. No hard feelings, but that fudge has been âliving in my head rent-freeâ (as the kids say) ever since. But this week I came across [this article from People]( about a woman who had her own famous fudge recipe engraved on her headstone. If you're willing to memorialize a fudge recipe in stone, it has to be pretty good, right? As a tribute to Kay, Iâll be giving her recipe a try ASAP. YOUR ONE GOOD THING Reuse The Bag From A Box Of Cereal Ceil from Huntley, Illinois has a great tip for using cereal bags: âI save the empty bags from cereal boxes. Depending on the size of the bag, you can use them for sandwiches, leftovers, packing shoes in your luggage, and waste basket liners, to name a few. Save money and recycle too.â Great tip Ceil! The thing that makes cereal liner bags so useful is how thick and durable they are. Theyâre thicker than the thickest ziplock bag, which means you can use them in ways you may not be able to use other flimsier bags. Here are a few more ways to put cereal liner bags to good use: • Scoop frosting into one of the bottom corners, snip the corner of the bag off, and use it as a piping bag.
• Cut the bag into small squares and use them to keep burger patties separated in a stack.
• Use them to wrap up homemade bread, rolls, or buns before storing them in your freezer.
• Use them to crush up crackers, cereal, or nuts for recipes without making a mess. Have a great tip or trick of your own?
