A simple hack for Swiffer, tips for shopping at Walmart like a pro, and more. June 28, 2021 [View Online]( Good morning! If I were to list out all the ways you can use hydrogen peroxide around the house, it would probably fill two newsletters. Consider the five listed below your appetizer, then follow the link for the whole meal. Today’s Monday Motivation is all about making peace with the past, so let's agree to focus on the week ahead and try to make it a good one. Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING 5 Handy Uses For Hydrogen Peroxide [Left: Red peppers being rinsed in a sink. Top right: Peroxide being poured over baking soda on a baking sheet. Bottom right: A sponge scrubbing a wooden board.]( Whether you need to disinfect, sanitize, deodorize, or whiten, that brown bottle can do it all! 1. Wash Fresh Produce. Wash fresh vegetables and fruits with hydrogen peroxide to remove dirt and pesticides. Add 1/4 cup of peroxide to a sink of cold water, wash your produce, then rinse thoroughly with cool, clean water. 2. Erase Baked-On Messes. Erase stubborn food residue from pots and pans by applying a paste of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to it, then let it sit for an hour or two. Come back later, give it a good scrub, and the baked-on grime will come right off. 3. Sanitize Your Dishes. Add two ounces of hydrogen peroxide to your dishwasher along with your regular detergent. For hand washing dishes, you can add a sanitizing boost to your regular dish soap by pouring two ounces of hydrogen peroxide right into the bottle. 4. Clean Your Fridge. Use hydrogen peroxide to wipe out the inside of your refrigerator. Because it’s non-toxic, it’s a great option for cleaning appliances you cook with or use for food storage. 5. Sanitize Your Sponge. Sanitize a grimy kitchen sponge by combining equal parts peroxide and warm water in a shallow dish, then soaking your sponge in the solution for about 10 minutes. Rinse the sponge thoroughly afterward and let it air dry. Right: Jillee pulling one of the fuzzy socks over the base of a Swiffer Sweeper.]( Cut back on waste and save money by ditching your disposable Swiffer pads. If you're tired of adding disposable sweeper pads to your grocery list but love the convenience of your Swiffer Sweeper, consider this easy alternative. Grab one of your fuzziest, most stretchable socks, slide it over the base of your Sweeper, and use it like you normally would. The fuzzier the sock, the more effectively it will trap dust, dirt, and hair. And when you’re done sweeping, you can wash the sock with the rest of your laundry and use it again and again. It’s simple, effective, and dirt cheap—I call that a win-win-win! SHOPPING Easy Ways To Win At Walmart [Left: Jillee using the Pickup machine at Walmart. Center: A jar of Great Value mushroom pasta sauce. Right: A clearance sticker on a weighted blanket.]( Make the most of your next shopping trip at Walmart with these three useful tips. 1. Shop For Groceries Online. The size of Walmart stores alone can be overwhelming, not to mention the sheer number of products available. Avoid wandering the aisles by doing your grocery shopping online via the Walmart website or app. Paying online and taking advantage of free in-store pickup makes it even more convenient. 2. Shop The Store Brand. Apparently it’s an open secret that many of Walmart’s Great Value brand items are manufactured at the same facilities as Conagra’s brands. While not officially confirmed, many suspect that McCormick spices, Green Giant canned vegetables, and Cool Whip whipped topping are hiding beneath those Great Value labels. 3. Decode Clearance Tags. The prices listed on clearance tags can tell you more than just how much the item costs. Prices that end in 7 reflect the item’s original price, while prices that end in 5 signify the item has been marked down. If the price ends in 0 or 1, that price is a final markdown, so snap it up if it’s something you want. Right: The brush bag unzipped and folded back to reveal a number of makeup brushes inside.]( Some of the best purchases I’ve made over the years were inexpensive items that were just more cleverly designed than anything I had used before. One such item is my [ANEMEL makeup brush bag]( which I found on Amazon while researching for a blog post about [caring for makeup brushes](. It’s sort of a two-for-one, because it can be both a travel-friendly storage bag and a countertop brush holder. When it’s zipped closed I can toss in my purse or suitcase without worrying about getting makeup on anything, and when I need to use my brushes, I just unzip the bag and fold the top part over to make all my brushes easily accessible. A lot of my own guilt stems from knowing the toll my addiction took on my family. It’s frankly a miracle that my marriage and my relationships with my kids survived, and there have been times when I’ve wondered whether it’s more than I deserve. But everyone has made mistakes, said things they didn’t mean, acted in their own self-interest, and hurt people they loved. Regret is great at magnifying our failings while minimizing the lessons we’ve learned and the ways we’ve grown. By dwelling on the past, we give it power over our present. But we can choose to let the past go, choose to forgive ourselves for being human. Some chapters are already written, but your story is still in progress. You can decide what happens next, but you have to flip to a fresh page to start writing it. A FEW MORE THINGS... What’s Coming Up? In this week's newsletters, learn a smart way to make the most of your food, find out about a brand new product in my shop (hint: natural allergy relief is coming), and get the recipe for a delicious and easy dessert that’s perfect for your Fourth of July festivities.
