Charge your phone fast when youâre short on time, easy ribs packed with barbecue flavor, and more. June 26, 2021 [View Online]( Good morning! The weekend is here, and since you're already reading todayâs newsletter, yours is off to a good start. If youâre not sure what youâre having for dinner tonight, head straight for the quick and easy spare ribs below. Or if youâre in a more nostalgic mood, join me on a stroll down Memory Lane in todayâs Remember When (but donât worry, purple pants are optional). Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING Charge Your Phone Faster [Top left: Plugging into a power strip. Top right: A power adapter. Bottom left: Plugging in a portable battery pack. Bottom right: Jillee pointing to the Airplane Mode button on her phone.]( When you need to charge your phone in a hurry, use these tips to speed things up. 1. Use A Wall Outlet. Plugging your phone into your computer via USB may be convenient, but it wonât be speedy. Older USB ports usually only charge at 0.5 amps (A), and USB 3.0 maxes out at 0.9A. Both will be slower compared to a 1A power adapter, so always plug into a wall outlet when you're in a hurry.
2. Get A Better Adapter. Apple's standard power adapter only delivers 5W, while most newer phones are capable of receiving 15-20W. A more powerful [20W adapter]( can speed up the charging process significantly, so theyâre worth the extra cost.
3. Charge An External Battery. A lot of [portable battery packs]( can charge faster than your phone, so you can save time by juicing up your battery pack instead. Plug your battery pack in for as long as you can, then plug your phone into the pack once youâre on the move again.
4. Put It In Airplane Mode. There's an all-out war going on over the power coming into your phone when it's dying and you plug it in to charge it. Turning on Airplane Mode will disable many of those competing functions and help your phone charge faster.

Few of those recipes are more tried or more true than spare ribs. They've got all the delicious flavors of barbecue ribs, but you don't even need a barbecue or grill to make them. I used to make them in my slow cooker, but now I just toss it in my Instant Pot and it's ready before I know it. The sauce for these spare ribs was also handed down to me by my mom, and it contains an honest-to-goodness âsecret ingredient.â I actually refused to tell my kids about it for years, because I know them well enough to know they'd make a big deal about a little container of baby food prunes. (Cue eye roll.) The prunes add sweetness and depth of flavor to the sauce that just canât be recreated or faked. (Trust me, Iâve tried!) If you're looking for an easy recipe you can serve both on busy weeknights and when you have company, you can't go wrong with Momâs spare. Center: Jillee brushing dry shampoo powder into her hair. Right: Fingernails painted with matte nail polish.]( If the cornstarch in your kitchen is gathering dust, pull it out of the cupboard and put it to work. 1. Untie A Knot. If you're struggling to untie a stubborn knot, you can use a bit of cornstarch to loosen it up. Just sprinkle some of the powder onto the knot, rub it in with your fingers, and gently work the knot until it comes loose.
2. Dry Shampoo Your Hair. Cornstarch makes a handy substitute for dry shampoo when youâre in a rush and donât have time for a proper wash. You can use it to make either a [dry shampoo spray]( or a [dry shampoo powder]( for a fraction of the price of their store-bought counterparts.
3. Mattify Your Manicure. Mix up your next home manicure by giving any of your nail polishes a matte finish. Just pour a small amount of your nail polish onto a small paper plate, sprinkle some cornstarch into it, then mix with the brush or a craft stick. Apply the polish to your nails and let it dry for a modern matte manicure. JILLEE'S PICK A Clean Sheet For Magic Erasers [Left: Magic Eraser Sheets in their book-like packaging. Right: A Magic Eraser Sheet being used to clean around a faucet handle.]( Iâm really enjoying the new [Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Sheets]( which are the latest addition to the Magic Eraser product line. While the full-size ones are chunky foam blocks, these thin sheets are, well, thinner and more sheet-like. Each sheet is a fraction of the width of a full-size Eraser, so they're much more flexible and thus easier to get into small cracks and crevices. I can get these sheets into tight spots that I would otherwise struggle to clean, like the crevices of my sink drain or between the slats of my outdoor furniture. And much like I do with the full-size Erasers, I like to cut the sheets into smaller pieces to really make the most of them. Depending on what Iâm trying to clean, I may cut one sheet into two or even four pieces, which definitely cuts down the cost per use. [See these and my other favorite cleaning tools on Amazon](. REMEMBER WHEN The Dress Codes They Are A-Changinâ [A vintage photo of five school girls, all wearing dresses and skirts with knee socks and Mary Jane shoes.]( Remember when it was mandatory for girls to wear dresses or skirts to school? I had to wear a dress to school every day (every day!) until I was in the 3rd grade. The first day I was allowed to wear pants was such a memorable occasion that I still remember the exact pair I woreâpurple with dark purple flowers. The other memory I have of those purple pants is wearing them when my friends and I would pretend to be the Partridge Family during recess. Since I had long, straight hair that was parted down the middle, I was usually Laurie. The era when pants were prohibited by school dress codes feels like ancient history in some ways. But then again, there have always been rules about how girls "should'' dress and act, they just evolve over time. It's true what they say: the more things change, the more they stay the same! ð GIVEAWAY You're Already On Your Way To Winning A Custom KitchenAid This week I'm giving away a [custom KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer]( to one lucky reader, and entering to win couldn't be easier!
