Make cleaning wipes for pennies, a solution for droopy earrings, and more. June 8, 2021 [View Online]( Good morning! If this is your first encounter with my new-and-improved newsletter, kick off your shoes and make yourself at home. I'll start with an exciting announcement: my Newsletter Launch Giveaway starts tomorrow! I’ll be giving away something new every week this month, starting with a prize from Purple that has me green with envy. Check back tomorrow for all the details about getting yourself entered to win, and in the meantime, enjoy the bounty of useful tips below! Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING Cleaning Wipes Without The Cons [Left: Pulling a homemade wipe out of a jar. Right: Using a homemade wipe to wipe a toilet seat lid.]( Unlike the store-bought variety, these ones are both cost-effective and reusable. I made the switch to using homemade cleaning wipes a few years ago, and once the pandemic began, I was especially grateful that I had! The surge in demand for disinfecting wipes outpaced supply for months, so it was nice to know I didn’t have to worry about that. The supply of cleaning and disinfecting wipes has since rebounded, but there are still plenty of compelling reasons to go the homemade route. Homemade cleaning wipes produce less waste, contain just three simple ingredients, and they couldn’t be easier to make! How to make homemade cleaning wipes: Add 2 cups of rubbing alcohol (70% or higher), 1 teaspoon of dish soap, and 20 drops of [Simple Clean]( to a quart-sized mason jar. (Adding Simple Clean is optional, but it does give the wipes a fresh scent and an additional boost of cleaning power.) Stir the solution, then add clean cloths or rags to the jar one at a time until they have absorbed most of the solution. You can use washcloths, old kitchen rags, or even t-shirts or bath towels you’ve cut into pieces. Use the wipes like you would normally, and once you’ve used them all, just toss them in your washer to clean and reuse them! [Save on Pinterest →]( Need supplies? Get them for less! You don’t have to break out your label maker to have an organized kitchen, but there are certain things you definitely want to be able to tell apart. You could easily mistake sugar for salt, but that mixup would leave a bad taste in your mouth in more ways than one! Avoid an unpleasant experience with the help of a few rubber bands. Wrap a rubber band around the lid of a container to distinguish it from the rest. [Disappearing Bedside Clock](. This app is fairly self-explanatory, and it’s great for checking the time when I wake up in the middle of the night. The clock only appears when I move my hand near my phone, and quickly goes dark again so I can get back to sleep. 2. [Marco Polo](. If text messaging isn’t your thing, you might prefer exchanging short video messages on Marco Polo. Use it to keep in touch with family and friends throughout the day without wasting time typing out lengthy texts. 3. [Overdrive](. Access your local library’s digital offerings from the comfort of home! As long as you have a library card, you can use Overdrive to check out ebooks or audiobooks from your library for free. JILLEE'S PICK An Instant Fix For Droopy Earrings [Left: Earring without BlingDots. Right: Earring with BlingDots.]( Dangly earrings have been one of my go-to accessories for decades, but in recent years I’ve feared I might have to give them up for good to avoid tearing my increasingly fragile earlobes. I was spared that unthinkable fate when I stumbled across these [BlingDots Earring Supports](. These small foam dots go on the backs of your ears, and they help support your earlobes so the weight of your earrings doesn't cause any sagging or drooping. I've found that one set of dots typically lasts me at least a few days, even through showering and shampooing. Give them a try and see what a difference they make! [See these and my other beauty favorites on Amazon](. WHAT IN THE WORLD WIDE WEB Doodling For Science Is it a teaching tool for artificial intelligence, or a simple online drawing game? [Quick, Draw!]( is actually both, and it’s as fun to play as it is fascinating to learn about! Click “Let’s draw!” and you’ll be given a word to draw while a neural network (which is a machine that learns by analyzing data) attempts to guess what you’re drawing. The machine is already a pretty good guesser, but it also gets a little smarter every time you play. Give it a try, and if anyone asks what you’re doing, you can tell them you’re "contributing to advancements in machine learning." (Not bad for a few doodles!) A FEW MORE THINGS... What I’m Watching: I have a new show that I've gotten into: "The Great” on Hulu. It’s very loosely based on the early life of Catherine the Great and has plenty of drama (and plenty of raunch as well, just as a word of warning!) Just Announced: Mark your calendars because Amazon has confirmed that this year’s Prime Day is happening June 21-22. And as usual, I'll be hunting down the very best deals and sharing them with you throughout the sale. (More info to come!) What did you think of today's email?
