The best way to hang a sweater, the creamiest eggs you've ever eaten, and a duct tape fashion fix. June 5, 2021 [View Online]( Good morning! Saturday mornings are for yard work around here, which can be a peaceful respite for me after a long week. It's somewhat less peaceful when it includes the sounds of Dave and our youngest Sten bickering about the height of the lawnmower blades, but some things just can't be helped. But other things—like too-long pants, rubbery scrambled eggs, and stretched-out sweaters—have easy fixes, and you'll find them right here! Jillee TODAY'S GOOD THING A Better Way To Hang Sweaters [A variety of colorful cardigans folded and hanging on a rack]( Use this trick when hanging up a sweater to avoid lumps, bumps, and stretched-out sleeves! If you’ve seen, well, practically any photos of me on my blog, then you may already know that I wear cardigans from time to time. (Okay, that might be the Understatement of the Year, but my cardigan collection and I get enough flack at home as it is!) Sorting through a rainbow of sweaters is next to impossible unless they’re hanging up, but hanging them has its own problems. Gravity pulls on the sleeves and stretches them out, and hangers leave impressions that can make them look lumpy when you wear them. But one simple solution can solve both those problems, and it’s a handy little method I like to call “hang-folding.” Here’s how it’s done: [Top left: Sweater folded in half. Top right: Hanger resting on sweater. Bottom left: Sweater partially folded over hanger. Bottom right: Sweater fully folded onto the hanger.]( 1. Fold your sweater in half so that the sleeves are lined up together. 2. Position a hanger so the hook rests in the gap between the sleeves and the sides. 3. Fold the body of the sweater over one of the sloped sides of the hanger. 4. Fold the sleeves over the other sloped side, then hang it up in your closet. Try hang-folding your sweaters, cardigans, and other long-sleeved tops. It’s not every day you can solve this many problems at once! As strange as they may seem, these are some of the silkiest and most delicious eggs I've personally ever eaten! Their silkiness comes from cornstarch, which prevents the proteins from seizing up while they cook so they stay soft and creamy. How to make 15-second creamy scrambled eggs: In a mixing bowl, whisk 1 1/2 tablespoons of milk and 1 3/4 teaspoons of cornstarch together until smooth and free of lumps. Crack 3 eggs into the milk and cornstarch mixture and whisk until smooth, then season with salt. Heat a nonstick skillet over high heat, then add 3 tablespoons of butter to the hot pan. Once the butter has melted and begun bubbling, pour the egg mixture into the pan and leave it alone until the edges start to bubble, about 5-10 seconds. Remove the skillet from heat and stir the eggs with a flexible spatula for 15 seconds, making one full circle around the pan per second. When the eggs have absorbed the butter, but still look a bit wet, they're ready to eat! Right: The cuff of the jeans is folded back down.]( Duct tape isn’t just useful for making quick repairs—it’s handy in fashion emergencies too! If the bottom hem of your pants isn’t falling where you’d like it to, you can use a few pieces of duct tape to create a temporary new hem. Just fold the excess fabric up into the pant leg and use a small piece of duct tape to secure it in place. It’s a great alternative for adjusting too-long pants, especially if you’d rather avoid cuffing them. JILLEE'S PICK Four Toiletries, One Handy Dispenser [Left: Dispenser with Jillee's finger on the button. Right: Jillee dispensing a lotion onto the back of her hand.]( It seems like everyone has big travel plans this summer! Regardless of whether you’re traveling by plane, train, or automobile, no one wants to lug around a suitcase full of full-size toiletries. My own search for space-saving toiletry bottles led me to this great [4-in-1 travel dispenser]( on Amazon. It houses four 40 mL pump bottles, and comes with a set of label stickers so you can keep track of what you put in each bottle. REMEMBER WHEN The Do-It-All Darling Of The ‘70s [A 1976 advertisement for Johnson's Baby Oil showing a woman taking a bath]( Pinterest This 1976 ad for Johnson’s Baby Oil is giving me serious flashbacks! I was in my early teens at the time, and like most California girls, I was determined to have the softest, smoothest, and most importantly, tannest skin possible. Enter baby oil, the Swiss army knife of skin care products in the ‘70s. This ad shows off its versatility as a bath oil, a shaving oil, and a makeup remover. And while this particular ad doesn't mention it, it was also a very popular tanning oil. I'm slightly horrified when I think of all the afternoons I spent basting myself in baby oil and roasting away under the sun, but I feel a little nostalgic too. Life was certainly simpler back when my most pressing concerns could be solved by baby oil! (Image via [Pinterest]( A FEW MORE THINGS... LOL: If being in your pajamas by 7 pm is wrong, I don't want to be right. This year’s April showers brought May showers too, and while we need all the rain we can get, the on-and-off storms made it an unproductive time for gardening.
