We also announce two interesting webinar events happening this week: 'Where next for teacher-research?' panel discussion, and 'TextInspector.com: An online tool for benchmarking texts to the CEFR'.
For the classroom, we feature a lesson for primary learners 'Sustainable living: transport', and an activity for adults and teenagers to review or test vocabulary.

Teaching kids
This lesson plan for teachers of primary learners at CEFR level A1 explores the theme of sustainable living in relation to transport. Learners will become aware of being able to make a difference in protecting the environment. The class works in small groups as well as a whole class. Learners carry out a class survey, make calculations about means of transport and produce a visual wall display illustrating the results of their survey.

Teaching teens
As teachers, our responsibilities to our youth include not only language or content teaching but also the education of future generations, and education goes beyond the coursebook. It includes life skills, personal development and character education, and these are areas for which the scope with higher-level students is tremendous because they have gone beyond basic language skills, and are ready to venture into the more abstract, or the more creative realms of learning. Teaching adults
'Same as the teacher?' is an activity designed to be used as a vocabulary review or test of existing knowledge of the learners' vocabulary. It generates lots of words and is a lot of fun. The categories can be changed to suit the level and learner. There are two procedures to choose from, and an example worksheet for you to use or adapt.

Development
To mark the end of the International Festival of Teacher-research in ELT, a panel of invited guests will discuss further possible enhancements to the teacher-research movement. Join this panel discussion 'Where next for teacher-research?' with commentary from Harry Kuchah, Melba Libia Cárdenas, Amy Lightfoot, Richard Smith and Daniel Xerri, as well as interaction with the audience, on Saturday 7 April at 15.00 UK time.

This webinar, taking place on Thursday 5 April at 16.00 UK time, examines a high-powered web-based text analysis tool called TextInspector.com, winner of the 2017 ELTons award for Digital Innovation. The tool allows users quickly to obtain reliable research-based information on the lexical composition and level of any text, to help them make key decisions about their text's difficulty and its overall level in relation to the CEFR. This webinar will show the potential of the tool for teachers, learners, materials designers and test developers.
