Sometimes you have to fake it till ya make it. Other times you have to be your authentic self. Read on. [View this email in your browser]( Man, what a week. It's only been two days since the launch of our new podcast [Teach Me Something New]( and yet it's felt like so many more. I've been so encouraged to hear from all of you who have listened and loved the show. And even better? At the time of writing this, it's broken into the Top 25 podcasts in the country. Are you freaking kidding me?? Thank you all so much for checking it out. What inspired me most about Ashton and Mila's "acting for everyday life" lesson was how to use acting skills as a parent. I've tested out a few of them this week during bedtime: reading stories like Goodnight Moon with way more inflection than ever before, and telling "Full House" imaginary stories that have a positive lesson in them. I've also taken Ashton's advice "fake it till you make it" and Mila's advice "learn to be okay with being yourself" to heart by consciously invoking self-confidence in all that I do — from amping up my suave tone during nerve-wracking business pitch meetings to telling someone close to me how I REALLY felt when they did something that hurt me. I guess the truth is that you have to *know* when to fake it and when to be authentic. But confidence is required for both. Read on to hear about the stories YOU told me about finding confidence in an otherwise scary situation. Maybe you can try a few tips out for yourself this weekend. As for me, I'm planning to spend the days hanging with Dave and my kiddos... and perhaps teach those little guys something new ;) When did YOU have to exert confidence in an otherwise scary situation? I asked this question [on Instagram]( and got some great responses. I particularly love this one from Crystina C (also known as [@themessypainter]( "My first day teaching! I was fresh out of college and had had a hard time finding a job as an art teacher. When I finally did it was at a title I high school and the night before my first day I remember calling my internship supervisor crying that I wouldn’t be able to handle the position. I had NO idea what to expect and I was terrified. It occurred to me that these kids might not like, respect or care to listen to any of the things I had learned with my education degree. Aside from that, I looked like a high schooler - to give you a visual I was 23, 5’2, maybe 110lbs. and kind of looked like Lindsey Lohan when she was in the Parent Trap. I felt hopeless. I showed up on my first day, in my teacher clothes, with my fresh cup of coffee and I had SIXTY KIDS in my first class. Guidance counselors had hit a glitch in scheduling and were using my room as a dumping ground. Rather than freak out, I immediately chugged my coffee, turned on the smart board and got some interactive games going to at least keep everyone at bay. Administration was super impressed that I managed to stay calm and keep the kids under control while they sorted it out. The principal acknowledged that most teachers in that situation would’ve freaked out, yelled at him or even cried, and that he was excited to have me based on how I handled this situation. It gave me the confidence I needed to keep showing up and become a great teacher." Fun Ideas For Your Weekend Inspired by the podcast, this week's roundup of weekend activity ideas are geared towards all of you parents out there. (Non-parents, I've got you covered next week!) Try re-reading Goodnight Moon. I'm not gonna lie, Ashton and Mila's dramatic reading of this book MAY have been the highlight of my chat with them. But do you know [the story of the woman behind the book]( (PS: Did you also know it's sold 48 million copies!?) Go on a springtime forest adventure. Grab your bestie and kiddos — in my case, my boys + my co-founder Anj's girls (yes, that's four kids under five!) — and go on a walk or easy hike in coordinated outfits. [Ours are courtesy of H&M's new collab with artist Karolina Kijak](. Get a hand-operated drone. I'm not kidding, y'all. [This toy is so random]( but our kids LOVE it. Might be the best purchase of the past few months. It keeps them focused and busy for long enough for me to pee and do the dishes (at separate times, obviously). Win-win! Let's end on this note. Dig deep down. Learn to be okay with who you are. And dare to exist loudly. Hope you'll try something more brave and bold than usual this weekend. Join the Conversation Wanna chat more?
