Pennzoil partnership, 2023 event coverage, new Local Partners, and video Success Stories. Stay up-to-date with BaT News and Updates. Hi {NAME}! Fall is in full swing and things aren't slowing down on BaT. We're already hard at work planning next years' events and working on a number of new initiatives. Here's the latest. Introducing Pennzoil High Fives As part of our collaboration with Pennzoil, we’re pleased to announce a new program called [Pennzoil High Fives](. Pennzoil will cover the full amount of the 5% buyer’s fee for auction winners of select vehicles that particularly embody the company’s [Long May We Drive]( mantra—high-mileage survivors, unique projects, long-cherished family heirlooms, or cars that particularly inspire their owners to hit the road. It’s an extremely generous way to reward the BaT community, and we’re excited to announce our first winner! This [1976 Toyota Chinook camper]( closed Monday, September 11, with a winning bid from [Mrs_oldschool](. It was the second time across the BaT auction block for this charming Hilux-based camper, which boasted recent updates such as brick-patterned wallpaper, woodgrain flooring, a 12-volt refrigerator, a hidden Porta Potti, an 1,800-watt power inverter, additional storage space, and an electric fireplace. Let’s give a big “thank you” to our new partner Pennzoil, and congratulations to Mrs_oldschool! We hope the extra funds help get this Chinook ready for its next adventure, and we look forward to travel updates. Stay tuned for more Pennzoil High Fives in the near future! End of 2023 BaT Alumni Gathering Season A recap of our [final Alumni Gathering of 2023 at Watkins Glen International]( is now live on the site. This event acted as a fitting coda to our ever-popular Alumni Gathering season, and we used it to give away four sets of [Michelin and BFGoodrich tires]( to attendees. To see the sights and sounds from the final Alumni Gathering of 2023, click the video below to check out our Watkins Glen recap video. [[ratio]  ]( Thanks again to all of you who showed up to support us in central New York and at all of our Alumni Gatherings this year. As far as we’re concerned, there’s nothing better than connecting in person with BaT alumni cars and owners—we’re already excited for next year! Lot #100,000 Update: 23 Scholarships and Counting for The Piston Foundation! Back in March 2023 we sold [the BaT “Gimlet Z”]( as the 100,000th auction on our site, with all of the money from the sale [benefitting the Piston Foundation](. A few months down the road, we’re happy to hear that the sale has helped them to make a big impact! Jeff Mason, President & COO of the Piston Foundation, recently sent us this update: When the auction closed, the Gimlet Z had fetched $124,240, enough to create 27 scholarships! In addition, the donation included all of the $5,000 buyer’s fee and an additional $6,513 that was donated separately by generous members of the BaT community, for a grand total of $135,753 given to the Piston Foundation. We should mention that 100% of the donations went directly to scholarships, so this incredible sale made an immediate impact: The Piston Foundation has been able to support 23 aspiring technicians with a $5,000 scholarship each so far in 2023. The one and only Judy Stropus has spoken with three of these recipients, and you can read those interviews by clicking the following links. [Victoria Bruno]( [Sean Whetstone]( and [Edwin Buiter]( are all well on their way toward a bright future working with collector vehicles! The assistance has given them and their peers much to be thankful for, and it’s in large part thanks to BaT and the BaT community. In fact, everyone involved was so satisfied with the results that hosting another auction was a no-brainer. So we’re pleased to say that our relationship with BaT has continued with the sale of a [donated 1960 Willys Wagon]( in July and the upcoming auction of a [Mazda Miata land speed record race car](. We’ve even launched a campaign that allows owners to [donate their collector vehicle to the Piston Foundation]( in order to be auctioned on BaT, with all proceeds going to fund scholarships. We appreciate Jeff's kind words and thank the Piston Foundation for helping to raise up a new and gifted generation of restoration specialists. We are enthusiastic supporters of ensuring a future for automotive expertise and enthusiasm, and we look forward to continuing our work with this organization. If you’d like to support The Piston Foundation, follow the links to make a [financial contribution]( or [vehicle donation](. For more information please visit [pistonfoundation.org]( New Local Partners to Help With Auction Prep Since our last update in May, we've added a huge number of new Local Partners with the goal of bringing the benefits of professional auction preparation services to everyone in the BaT community. [FIND A LOCAL PARTNER]( New Success Stories in Motion Just over a month ago we launched the first of our new video series, Success Stories in Motion. Much like our written [Success Stories]( these short video pieces shine a light on the people behind the wheels of the vehicles bought and sold here every day on BaT. Now, in our second installment, we’re excited to introduce Pauline Abate, her husband Ed, and [their charming Autobianchi Bianchina Transformabile](. All three of these videos were shot in partnership with our friends at [Avants]( and we’re delighted with how they turned out. [[ratio]  ]( The first vignette, [One Day]( introduces the Abates and recounts how Pauline fell in love with Autobianchis before taking this one home. [[ratio]  ]( In [Seven Wrenches]( we meet the seller, the proprietor of a small shop that specializes in even smaller Italian cars. Like so many BaT sellers who work with cars for a living, his love and appreciation for the vehicles he represents is readily evident. It’s experts like him who form the backbone of the BaT community. [[ratio]  ]( Finally, [Good Miles]( finds the Abates on the road and enjoying the closeness of a tiny cockpit as they talk about the role that driving together has played in their 36-year marriage. We hope you’re enjoying this new series, and we’re grateful to [@tetre_rouge]( and for sharing their time and stories with us. Let us know how you’re enjoying Success Stories in Motion, and stay tuned for the next round!
