This offense is dedicated to helping you create big advantages and score more points with easy shots, while fighting against players’ tendencies to become robotic instead of attacking the basket. One coach who purchased the product reached out to Coach Steege and asked a great question about running this offense against a variety of defenses:  Hello Coach Steege:  I hope you don't mind me contacting you regarding your Zoom Offense offering on Breakthrough Basketball.  I purchased your offering today and although I have not watched all of it, I watched the first video and read through the ebook.   Do you have any suggestions/experiences to share regarding running the offense against a variety of zone defenses or do you run some other offense when faced with an opponent's zone defense?  Thank you for your time.  Here was Coach Steege’s response:  Hey Coach,  This is how we handle it...  In transition, we tell our guys we're going to get at least 1 action before we worry about what defense the opponent is in. A lot of times our pace and/or action will get us a good shot before we have to worry about zone offense. This offense can confuse a zone just as easily as it does a man defense. NOW, with that being said, we have never run our man offense against zone dead ball, or after an FT if we know they will be in zone. For example, if we are walking it up and they are standing in a 2-3 or 1-3-1, the defense is set, we will run our zone offense. For us, it's because we think our zone offense is going to be more effective than Zoom, but if I'm being honest, I've never really tried running it against a set zone either :)  Against a 2-3, I would imagine running your actions with a switching D/slip mentality could be very effective.  A girls coach from the area who used to be my assistant talked about trying 2 post flow against 2-3 this year...on the whiteboard, it looked pretty good, but you don't know until you try.    I will also note that over the past couple of years, we have incorporated more Ball Screen, DHO actions in our zone sets.   Hopefully that helps!  Always feel free to ask questions.  Coach Steege  Next, we also had a coach reach out who's hungry for more skill development programs with the season almost underway. Here was this coach’s question:  Good afternoon,  I'm reaching out to you this afternoon looking for guidance on what product I should be looking at?  I recently purchased ['How to Run A Championship Practice']( honestly, I was happy that I did. Coach Ryan introduced many new drills that have been beneficial to our team's development. Now,.. I'm seeking more.  I'm searching for videos that will showcase competitive drills and that will teach solid defense. Defense drills can also fall into this category. Essentially, I just want to keep up the intensity and energy that my team has been giving through competitive drills and such.  Can you help? Regards, Luc  And here was Coach Brase’s response:  Hi Luc-  Glad you enjoyed Coach Schultz's practices and the benefitted you and your team.  The two products below are a great place to start if you are looking for competitive and intense drills from a great coach.  [The 12 Skill Drill Video]( provides great drills, offensive and defensive, that are intense and high energy. [The Outer ⅓ Defense video]( provides a lot of excellent defensive drills (as well as a defensive philosophy with the Outer 1/3 Product)!  Note: Both products are available for 30% off as part of our sitewide Cyber Monday sale if you’re interested.  Just FYI- we will be releasing more products in the future with other great coaches. We are filming their practices and will have a ton more great drills.  Any questions, please let me know.  Thanks and good luck!  Mark Brase Product Development Director Breakthrough Basketball  Closing Notes Thanks so much for reading this edition of the Breakthrough Basketball Mailbag!
