In yesterday’s email I explained that [Al Marshall’s uniquely aggressive 2-3 Zone Defense](  * Made his high school team the most feared defense in the state for over a decade.  * And delivered multiple state championships for other coaches who’ve implemented it.  So today I’ll elaborate on what makes this defense so effective… and how you can use it to win more games next season.   First, [Coach Marshall’s zone]( is great at forcing the offense into taking low percentage shots.   Trust me… I know this first hand!  As an All-conference guard my senior year… I shot 19% (4 for 21) against Coach Marshall’s zone!  That’s because players are drilled on “getting big” and play with high and wide hands…  I can remember playing against this defense… and it was like facing a giant octopus… with long, smothering tentacles at every turn!  As you can imagine… this dramatically reduces opportunities for penetrations and high-percentage shots in the paint.  And on top of that…  [This defense]( eliminates almost ALL open 3-point shots by using a “bounce-back” technique.  As I’m sure you know… 2-3 zones are often susceptible to open 3-pointers.   But that’s not the case with this zone…  That’s because Coach Marshall has devised a way for the bottom players in the zone to defend the shot at the wing… while also being able to “bounce back” to defend the basket when the guard defender recovers.  This means the offense frequently gets forced into taking contested perimeter jump shots… which are the lowest percentage shots you can take.   And another great benefit of this defense is…  It minimizes fouls/foul shots… which are the highest percentage shots you can take!  According to Nylon Calculus, the free throw in the NBA netted 1.51 points per possession… whereas 3-pointers were at 1.08.   So it makes sense that legendary North Carolina coach Dean Smith would say… “The key statistic [to winning] is getting to the foul line.”   Well, Coach Marshall’s 2-3 Zone combats this with drills and coaching points that show players how to master positioning and use their hands and footwork efficiently and effectively.   Which also means… your players will rarely be in foul trouble!  In fact, in the 2016 state semifinal and championship games… Coach Marshall only played 6 players!  Of course, this was also due to the fact that…  Players expend far less energy playing this defense because they’re not forced to chase their “man” all over the court!  So…  If you’re looking for a defense that…  * Forces the offense into low percentage shots * Doesn’t give up open 3’s like other 2-3 zones * Reduces opponent’s free throw opportunities * Keeps your best players out of foul trouble and on the floor * Preserves players’ energy so they’re fresh the entire game  And on top of that…  * Is easy to implement… leaving more time to coach-up the offense * And Is hard to prepare for because so few teams run it… Then check out [Coach Al Marshall’s 2-3 Zone]( which you can get until Sunday, September 24 for just $39!   All the best,  Joe Haefner Breakthrough Basketball     This email was sent to {EMAIL} because you indicated that you'd like to receive emails and updates from Breakthrough Basketball on 2016-12-16 05:42:39.
