The “dead ball” offensive trick

 Dead ball situations are some of the best, yet most underutilized opportunities in the entire game! Let me explain why.  If the defense drops back and the ball handler can create a head of speed, this puts the defense in a difficult situation to stop the dribble drive.  Additionally, the defense might not expect it and you might catch them off guard a few times a game.  And that provides a HUGE opportunity for the offense to capitalize–which is one of the strategies that Coach Brost teaches in his [“Get Comfortable Playing at An Uncomfortable Pace” offensive system.](  When it comes to dead balls, his goal is to have his team inbound it as quickly as possible.  This way, his point guard can race up the floor, catch the defense on their heels, and play off the space that opens up.  Because the deeper in the paint they can get right away, the more likely they are to create advantages and mismatches all over the court–which is the ultimate goal for any offense.  Attacking off dead ball situations is one of the simplest changes you can make that will have a huge effect on the entire game–because a few quick baskets off these situations (or even made baskets) can swing the momentum in your favor for good.  So if you want your team to play more aggressively and capitalize on easy scoring opportunities that most teams completely miss, I’d recommend you have them start practicing a fast pace off dead ball situations ASAP.  All the best,  Joe Haefner Breakthrough Basketball P.S.
